Things to Do in Lucca
Walls of Lucca
The ancient city walls encircling Lucca's Old Town have been built and rebuilt between Roman and Renaissance times. These ramparts kept the city safe for centuries, but today they’re best known as a walking and cycling route. Their tree-lined top is the perfect spot to take in panoramic views over Lucca and the Alps beyond.
Amphitheatre Square
This iconic elliptical plaza started life as a 1st-century Roman amphitheatre. Over the years, gladiatorial battles gave way to a prison, shops and even vegetable patches, before the structure was finally restored in the 1830s. Today PIazza Anfiteatro is the heart and soul of the city, lined with bustling cafés where Lucca locals watch the world go by.
Puccini e la sua Lucca Festival
Being the birthplace of a musical maestro is something to be proud of, but Lucca took it one step further. Puccini e la sua Lucca claims to be the world’s only permanent festival, held continuously since 2004. Concerts take place at 19:00 in San Giovanni Church, with an ever-changing programme of Puccini works performed by visiting artists.

Exceptional
Wonderful medieval town surrounded by the city walls. Mainly pedestrian which is great & no buzz bikes, just bicycles. Lots of quaint, unique shops & restaurants & bars. Try & stay within the city walls. Lucca is close enough to base yourself & explore Pisa & Florence.

A walled town in Tuscany which is on level ground! There is very little traffic in the town and bicycle is the main form of transport. It is very easy to hire bikes and pedal transporters, good fun! Lots of nice places to eat and some very quirky shops, will definitely return.

Lucca was beautiful, especially in the sunshine. A walk along the city walls before dinner is a must. Pizzeria Sbragia deserves a special mention. They were very kind to a solo traveller with limited Italian. Food was delicious too. Well worth a visit.

Lucca is a beautiful medieval town in Tuscany, with great restaurants and lots to see. It is also less turisty and crowded.

The city is completed walled. There is enough to see and pleasant to walk and stroll. Great Antique Market on the day we were there. Many selections for food.

on a sunny day, it is fantastic to walk over Lucca's city walls (about 4-5 km in total). It's also great to just walk into a random street in the old town, and discover what it has to offer.

Barilla just outside Piazza Amfiteatro is very popular with locals and tourists alike. It was recommended to our party by a local resident.

Walk or ride on top of the Siena city wall which takes you all around the city and allows for great views.

because it's true! There are no cars allowed in the old town, which makes it really pleasant.

Via Fillungo is a nice combination of boutiques, highstreet brands and gelaterias.
