Thyssen museum is in a class of it's own. The unique chronological ordering of art makes innovators stand out amongst there peers. Oh yeah Reina Sofia and Pardo is nothing to sneeze at either. Amazing collection of art in this city!

Good markets like Mercado San Miguel, Mercado San Anton and Mercado de la Paz. Great outlets like Gourmet Experience at El Corte Ingles. Excellent restaurants and bars. And the prices are reasonable compared to major cities all over the world. Everything is accesible by public transportation or even by foot.

Don't expect to eat in any independant eatery at tea time (they shut at 4pm open again after eight!!)
For cheap lager and free tapas, huge plates of it, the youngsters have sussed out Tiger bar.
For American, English and other breakfasts the café on the corner of Calle Dr Cortez was great, but their huge dunking donut things and a thick chocolate to dip it in are a more authentic Madrid breakfast, and only 2.5 euros!!!.

Shops specialise in what they sell, rather than try to compete and sell everything.
It gives you the best options and staff who really know their game.

And if your luggage allowance can take it the Rastro area turns into a huge and fabulous boot sale on Sunday mornings...other peoples (spanish) junk is irresistible?!

Apakah cara terbaik untuk meneroka Madrid dengan berjalan kaki?

Take the hop-on-hop-off bus, ticket for 2 days (second day is much cheper). First, take the whole round trip to feel the city and get the tourists' information (better you bring with you good earphones for that). Don't start at Sol station because it's too crowded. Then go on with the bus to your point of interest. Hop off, take a walk, then get back to the bus and take the next one. This way you manage to get many short walks in your preferred areas. You may ask your hotel's reception for recommendations as well. They all have a very convenient small maps for free. Use them.

Ke manakah pelancong harus pergi jika mereka mahu mengelak dari makan di restoran "tourist trap"?

24 hari yang lalu Lapor

Don't go to any of the "eat as much as you can". It was the only tourist trap we encountered. North to Plaza Mayor street you'll find very good and fancy restaurants. South to this street you will find great othentic Spanish and south American restaurants and a little bit further you'll find real othentic and very good chinese restaurants.

Madrid, like quite a few other European cities, is an old world city. The Spanish empire was at its greatest from around the end of the 15th century until the end of the 19th century. During this period Spain was one of the richest countries in the world. This history, and the wealth that this period brought to Spain, can be seen in Madrid from the Royal Palace to the beguiling Plaza Mayor.

There is a huge park (Retiro Park) within the city that is really nice to walk through. Many locals jog and workout in the park. There are things to see in the park such as the Crystal Palace (giant greenhouse), fountains, a lake that people take small boats into, food venues and monuments.

Madrid is one of the best cities on earth for a night out. Whether you're looking for hard core dance clubs that stay open until the sun comes up, or Jazz clubs playing classic old swing, Madrid has got it all. Certain areas of the city are known for different music scenes, so making sure that the area that you have chosen caters to your taste, and your budget, yes Salamanca, I do mean you!, will help when it comes to going out.

The flea market was an experience, Calle Cava Baja for the tapas bars and cocktail bars was excellent, the Grad Via for shopping, Mercado de San Miguel for sampling the extraordinary cuisine...

There's an information desk at the airport Metro station where they can help you decide if you'd benefit from a multi-day tourist pass. There are automatic ticket vending machines in the Metro stations that make it easy to buy the right fare (once you know where you're going!).

For a capital city, I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices in shops and restaurants, and the friendly service. This sets Madrid apart from certain other European capitals I could mention. In fact, apart from being more hectic than some other Spanish cities (other than Barcelona), you could say that Madrid doesn't feel like a capital at all.

It's an interesting town, far more ordered and clean than I expected. The museums and galleries are first class. The downside is the crowds in the streets. I felt like a fish swimming upstream. And I couldn't get into a restaurant for lunch for 3 days and ate at the hotel for dinner. The queues were epic. A day trip to El Escorial was an antidote to the bustle of Madrid.

The central city is easy to walk and the Madrid traffic can be chaotic; one foot in front of the other will get you there with much more certainty.
