The bouillabaisse is unforgettable, I had it like twice. And just seafood plates the other times. The selection is wide, almost all the restaurants serve some yummy local fish dishes.

Marseille was the first stop in our tour of South-France and I wanted to go to the beach. It's not the classic French Riviera style, mostly just a few small beaches at the south of the city (not in the center). The coast is really rocky but there are a few hidden little gem beaches to try.

The MUCEM opened last year when Marseille was the City of the Culture. Half of it is created from and old castle with great view to the sea and the port, the other part is a newly built modern building right next to it with amazing architecture and interesting exhibitions.

Wear scandals with straps or comfortable trekking shoes because most of the terrain is tarmac, pebbles, rocks. I prefer scandals because you can take them off easily if you feel like swimming. In fact, you can swim with it and protect from stepping on sharp rocks or pebbles on the seasides or shores. However, trekking shoes will protect your feet while trekking on rocks. Choose what you feel more protected and secured.

How can you prepare for the sun in Marseille?

Rozina
Rozina, Netherlands

17 days ago Report

Don't leave your sunblock cream at home and make sure you use it before leaving the hotel. We almost didn't see any clouds while we were there, it's better to make sure that you won't get a sunburn.

What kind of boating is Marseille best for?

Rozina
Rozina, Netherlands

17 days ago Report

There are boat tours leaving from the old port. Some of them just go to closeby islands, some of them further for 2-3 hours. The view is great, the coastline is idyllic.
