Better than Cancun, but still touristy. Closer to Tulum which is a plus. Beaches are good, but not great and way too crowded during the Christmas holiday. Lots of good dinning options and tons of shopping. Tropical weather which means it warm and humid and rains a little ... Show more most days. Show less

Restaurants and local shops are excellent value. Our restaurant bills were surprising. Especially away from the big hotels. Things in pharmacies and local shops were less expensive than in Canada for brand name products. Beautiful beaches.

Lively beach town. There are many tourists but the town still retains its charm.

The beaches at this Allegro resort were fantastic, I would not recommend the beaches in Playa del Carmen, very narrow and crowded.

Not my favorite. It was crowded and noisy. The beach and archeological places nearby are nice though. Plenty of bars, discos and shops.

so many bars, restaurants and shops in a very close area so you didn't need to travel anywhere, all in the same spot! Felt like a resort in Spain or Greece

The beach was not as clear as Cancun. Before going to PDC, we stayed in Cancun for 6 days and enjoyed every seconds of it.

Recommended in Playa del Carmen

There's a good selection of restaurants which are mostly comprised of Mexican, Italian and Seafood. There are lots of other options as well, and at different price points, so there seems to be something for everyone. I love that a lot of the restaurants are on 5th avenue, which makes for great people watching.

All the shops are concentrated on the long pedestrian street of 5th avenue, which makes it very pleasant to stroll and check things out.

nice many blocks walking mall with a variety of restaurants and shops / prices however designed for the higher US dollar

Walking through 5th avenue, drink and listen to music next to the beach, great massage

Nightlife starts late, so take a nap after spending a day at the beach.

El Oasis Mariscos (Playa del Carmen) - 50 Avenida Sur / Calle 12 Nte

The Mexican people are so friendly, funny and helpful
