The city is well organised and easy to get around, the Language is definatley French but you learn a few words quickly. The weather was perfect and the flight home nice and short.

I liked the resort we stayed at , chateau royal, and the shogun Japanese restaurant at the meridian hotel . What I disliked liked was how expensive everything is in numea , especially the food . It was also difficult to get around .

Recommended in Noumea

Tjibaou cultural centre, Noumea is worth the bus ride and the Musée de Nouvelle-Calédonie provides an excellent introduction to traditional Kanak and regional Pacific culture - do them both! The aquarium is also worth a visit. There is a six attraction ticket available at the museums and tourist info which saves on entry prices if you visit three or more.

Unless you are are student or pensioner, buy the Culture and Nature pass to save money (XFC1700) - it gives you entry to 4 museums, the Aquarium and the Zoological gardens; Students make sure you have your student card on you at all times and don't feel afraid to ask for student discounts - you can save alot of money!

Ocean swimming is safe (no sharks or jelly fish). Every other sport related to the ocean is available. Noumea is no longer more expensive than Australia. The prices are about the same.

Just make an effort to speak a little French or if you are speaking English, speak slowly with no slang or expressions. The locals really appreciate both.
