Things to Do in Óbidos
Porta da Vila
The original gateway into the ancient, picturesque town of Óbidos, this piece of ancient stonework is adorned beautifully with azulejo tiling, and within it sits a small chapel with mosaics depicting scenes including the Passion of Christ. A small Baroque balcony also bedecks the gate.
Castle of Óbidos
Perched high and overlooking Óbidos, this turreted treat has had a variety of inhabitants ranging from Romans, to Moors and Christians. Nowadays, its stone walls house a luxury hotel but visitors can still wander the grounds and admire how the stronghold continues to cut an impressive shape against the skyline.
Óbidos Old Town
The ideal day trip from Lisbon, this quaint patch of colourful houses, flower-bedecked streets and winding cobbles is as pretty as a picture. Passing through Óbidos’ old city walls, you'll be walking straight into the past. Wander by Óbidos Castle as its turrets blaze in the sunlight, while inside tiny churches, frescoes and mosaics delight.
Óbidos Vila Natal
With 2 stages within the medieval village walls, this Christmas event takes place between the 4th of December and the 3rd of January. It features entertainment performances related with circus, theatre, magic and jugglery. Entertainment and fun is guaranteed for children and grown-up alike while they visit the ice-skating rink and other fairground amusements.

Traveler's Reviews & Photos

The walled city is very quaint and charming. It's easy to get around with minimal climbing. The town square has and amazing church and the castle is a great sight too. Lots of shops with great gifts and of course the Ginja d' Obidos in chocolate cups is flowing.

The atmosphere in the streets takes us back to medieval times (in a contemporary way).

Beautifully restored castle, lovely sights both during day and night

A lot to see - a bit touristic - but still very relaxing!
