Porto visit: Ang travel guide mo

For centuries, boats have dropped anchor in the sleepy Douro River, as travellers tumbled forth into Porto’s lattice of sun drenched streets. Today, cellars stocked with sweet wine vie for your attention among studios, cafes, and baroque buildings strung with colourful criss-crossed washing lines.

Mga dapat gawin sa Porto
Ribeira
Nestled alongside the banks of the Douro River, Ribeira is one of Porto’s oldest neighbourhoods – and it’s made for a leisurely stroll. First, ramble past the pastel-coloured houses that dot the waterfront and get a good look at the Gothic wood carvings that adorn the Church of Saint Francis. Then, follow the old ‘rabelo’ boats as they drift towards the Dom Luís I Bridge.
Vila Nova de Gaia
Considered a city in its own right, “Gaia” is more than just a place from which to look across the Douro River and admire Porto’s old town. It’s famed for the “caves” of Avenida de Diogo Leite, a series of port-wine cellars that line the riverside street. So if you’re up for walking and tasting wine at the same time, it’s the ultimate trail for getting tipsy.
Dom Luís I Bridge
When completed in 1886, the Dom Luís I Bridge boasted the world’s longest iron arch and today it stretches across the Douro River like a cobalt-blue rainbow. From Ribeiro, walk across the lower deck to take in the river’s full span. At Gaia, you can zip up to the upper deck on a cable car and stroll back across at a height of 60 metres.
Paris Galleries Street
“Shall we go to the Galleries?”. In Porto, this is a common way of asking someone out for a drink. This street is piled high with trendy bars and groove-tastic discos. Out on the street, different strains of music thump out of clubs beckoning you in. Locals recommend Plano B, a funky bar with art exhibits and two separate dance floors. Night owls, fly this way.
Palacio da Bolsa
It’s strictly historic in Palacio da Bolsa. This neoclassical palace was designed as part of the São Francisco Church, but was rebuilt as the headquarters for the Porto Commerce Association. Today, it’s used to house permanent art collections. Make sure to pass by the Arab Room, a gleaming gold chamber that dazzles with its decoration.
Douro River
The Douro is the 3rd largest river of the Iberian Peninsula, going across Spain and Portugal to its outlet at Porto. Its total length is 897 km, of which only sections of the Portuguese reaches of the river are navigable, by light rivercraft.

Porto is just a fantastic destination for port wine and wine from the Douro valley. You can easily have a great day just visiting the storage houses on the other side over the river. Make sure to try a 40 year old port.

The people, the history and the overall architecture on the port making it a nostalgic and romantic heaven.
