The Rocks are a wonderful example of how gentrification should work: preserve the old, create a link between the present and the past, communicate history and offer modern facilities and services.

Was it cheap, fast, or easy to use? What made it so simple to get around in Sydney?

Weekly train ticket is probably the cheaper option if you want to venture further afield than the CBD. However it is rather expensive and cost $84 for the weekly ticket, but this still was the cheaper option for us as we were visiting lots of places and we were only there for 4 days, so gave our ticket away to some others at the airport. The cost of staying in a hotel in the CBD was expensive as well. Wouldn't stay and dine in the CBD again because of the cost. We had dinner at one of the Circular Quay restaurants 'the Sydney Oyster Cove' and being a coeliac was excited to see gluten free on the menu, however my meal wasn't gluten free when it arrived just ruined the dining experience, especially considering the cost of the food and drinks.

Sydney Harbour is one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. Breathtaking with a brilliant blue sky and moody on the few occasions there are clouds. The walks around the harbour are clean and give amazing views.

Why do people say Sydney can be seen best by foot?

Simon

Wide public areas and paths, so that one never feels overcrowded. CBD is compact.
Gardens are beautiful and spread along the CBD. One significant disadvantage: too many beggars and vagrants - surely not necessary in a wealthy city.
