We stayed in Pamukkale village for two nights in May. Perfect warm weather. We walked up through the lower entrance at 9.30am before the buses arrived. By the time we had finished splashing and sitting in the blue pools it was close to 11am so the thermal pool was not crowded either. Two hours later we were happily wandering around the unbelievably well preserved amphitheatre and other ruins.

Hieropolis is a UNESCO world heritage site together with the springs and the whole site is worth a day long visit. Do not get sold any tours from Selcuk, spend the night in Pamukkale.

We suggest you wear light clothing over your swimming costume. Your sandals will be put into your backpack as soon as you enter. we were sitting and splashing in the pools for quite a while. We slipped our light clothing over wet cosies for modesty and very soon we were comfortable and dry.

Take time to wander through the little village of Pamukkale. The people are so friendly good natured and welcoming. We chose a restaurant for its wood fired oven and enjoyed an exceptionally delicious, inexpensive meal. There is also a restaurant with a treehouse where we took tea in the late afternoon
