What's the best way to make the most of Brooklyn by foot?

Tony, United States of America

You watch TV/movies and you think that Brooklyn is a place you might get stabbed, but it's honestly not like that. It was very multi-cultural, and everyone was nice. I felt like I could look people in the eye. NY in general is a dirty city, but it's got some real character if you're willing to walk around and explore. We didn't quite have grasp on the subway the first day, so we walked from the hotel in Brooklyn, to uptown, down to Tribeca and then home. At the end of the day, we were beat, but we saw SO much, and witnessed the true NY. We're glad we did it.

Great places for good price; for example, very good vegan restaurant in Manhattan Avenue, and only 5mn walk far from the hotel

Not a shopper's paradise, but it reminds me of what neighborhoods were like a decade or two ago, before the chain stores took over.

There's so many parts of Brooklyn to experience. This section has many subway lines that connect to South Brooklyn and you could spend 7 days there and not see every crevice of the borough.

Was it cheap, fast, or easy to use? What made it so simple to get around in Brooklyn?

Everything was well-priced. I didn't find the Information Centre helpful at all. The people were friendly and helpful in Brooklyn, but not in Manhattan or in the area of Grand Central Station. New York, you will have to think of seating for the weary walking tourists and more public bathrooms at places of interest. That would be advantageous to the whole travel experience. Thank you.

Bodegas, delis, numerous mom and pop stores with very fair prices compared to Manhattan which is 10-15 minutes away, and national chains dot most neighborhoods in Brooklyn, which is perfect for being on a budget.

Take a walk down Fulton Street in Brooklyn. I'd say from Washington to Franklin. Wonderfully diverse choices. Then maybe venture over to Myrtle and Dekalb Aves for even more choices.

We are from Chicago. By comparison, the people of Brooklyn which we personally encountered mostly just seemed like harmless hipsters and/or harmless Jewish people.
