Things to do in Addo
Reception (Addo Elephant National Park Main Rest Camp)
This 164 000ha ecosystem is home to over 450 elephants making it one of the densest African elephant populations on earth. This sanctuary host the 'Big Seven': elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, southern right whale and great white shark. There is less rainfall in winter and thin vegetation which makes it more easy to spot the wildlife. Little rainfall also means that the animals often visit the waterholes making it easy for the game viewing of large numbers of animals.

Was able to see the animals very close up. Very easy to get around Addo - use a local tour guide as they know where the animals are. Chose to do a walk with a guide who was very informative. Be careful not to walk in the heat of the day - start early!

Very good
One full day is enough to drive through the bottom section of the park. The top is only accessible with a 4X4. The park lives up to its name, plenty of elephants to be seen. They are truly magnificent. We struggled to see other animals which was very disappointing.

Very good
Lots of elephants, buffalo, kudu, warthog, zebra and even a few lions and a rhino. Excellent morning and evening game drives. Bush is impenetrable so it is very difficult to see animals unless they are out on the roads or in open paddocks or at a waterhole.

Very enjoyable and we were so happy to get so close to the elephants. Good to know there is a wonderful place for them to live and roam freely. Good conservation of the wildlife.

Recommendations for Addo

The elephants in Addo Elephant Park were fascinating. Also the different species of antilopes are really great. We also witnessed a newly born red hartebeest stand up for the first time.
