Hotel Alla Salute Pleasant 6.6 The Hotel Alla Salute is a very lovely small hotel that is, in my opinion 100% perfectly located, right across the Grand Canal from the very crowded but must-be-visited San Marco district, yet is, itself in the peaceful, wonderful Dorsoduro district that right away I loved and spent most of my time in. I arrived in Venice by airplane and so chose to take the Alilaguna Blue (ferry) line to the hotel, which has a stop at the Zattere which is on the Giudecca Canal side of Dorsodura which allows for an easier walk along the Fondamenta Zattere to the Fondamenta De Ca Baia that the hotel is on. Don't make the mistake that I did and get off at the San Marco stop on the Grand Canal with the idea of using the Accademia Bridge to get over to Dorsoduro--for a first time visitor, it is amazingly difficult to find your way over to the Accademia Bridge from the San Marco stop (and lugging your luggage the whole way). Venice is one big maze and you will get frustrated and lost right away, and very few people will be able to help you unless you are fluent in Italian (and maybe not even then). For sure, you MUST buy a good Venice map from one of the many kiosks; the map your guidebook provides or anything you print from the Internet (Google maps) will be totally inadequate. Another piece of advice is to go ahead and buy a 24-hour (or longer) vaporetto ticket (line number 1 is extremely close to the hotel)--the timing doesn't start until you imprint the time on it at a vaporetto stop just before your first use--and use the vaporetto to get from place to place, as walking takes three times longer than you imagine it will (best of all, of course, would be the water taxis if you have that kind of money). You would also be only one vaporetto stop away from the Lido if you want to go there. The Guggenheim (modern art) Gallery is very close to the hotel, as is the Accademia Galley.
Hotel Messner Good 7.8 We loved having the junior suite over looking the canal. I found the value to be fantastic compared to other similar properties. Hotel Messner included breakfast which was a great deal and delicious! Speaking of food, the onsite restaurant was amazing. From the menu selection to wine great choices and prices. We loved having dinner outside in the garden.
Ca' Maria Adele Wonderful 9.2 excellent service from all staff very comfortable room

Hotel La Calcina Excellent 8.7 Setting ideal for walking to the sights and breakfast overlooking the Canale della Giudecca. Clean and tidy. Price. Excellent continental breakfast.
Hotel Tiziano Very good 8.5 Really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. We were upgraded to a room overlooking the canal which was a bonus. The staff were extremely helpful and we really appreciated the map and directions sent to us 3 days before our trip. This small boutique hotel was well presented and decorated in a typical Venetian style (but with a reasonable bathroom with plenty of hot water). The breakfast room is small but well set out and plenty of choice of cold foods. The hotel is set in a quiet part of Venice - bonus for us at night but is at least 20 minute walk from the "tourist spots". We love walking so not a problem but there is a vaporetto stop nearby which goes into the centre of Venice. We will return to Venice because we enjoy the experience and look forward to staying at the Hotel Tiziano again. Many thanks to the staff.
Antica Locanda Montin Good 7.6 If you are looking for a charming but not luxurious place to sleep out of the high traffic district of Venice, this hotel fits your needs. Our room on the top floor overlooked a quite scenic canal. There was no lift so we had to climb a couple flights of stairs. It is a convenient base for experiencing Venice. The staff speaks enough English to make check in and getting directions very easy. Wi-Fi worked great in the common area (up one flight of stairs from the check in desk and restaurant), but was spotty in our room.
Hotel Moresco Wonderful 9.4 Professional, yet extremely warm and friendly staff. Beautiful atmosphere in hotel.
