Hotel Vertigo San Francisco Good 7.7 We stayed at the Hotel Vertigo for a period of 6 nights, mid Jan 2014. From the moment we checked in, we were happy! Friendly staff on the front desk answered a few simple questions that we had. We were pleased with our room, we were on the 7th floor. Considering we were a family of 4 travelling, the room size was adequate for us all. Initially I was quite annoyed that the rooms were not air conditioned, but after telephone reception to enquire about this, we were told that if we opened up the windows, the room would cool down considerably. This was the case, and we were all able to sleep comfortably. The hotel is located 6 blocks from Union Square, only 10-15 minute walk away, which we always enjoyed. Plenty of restaurants, supermarkets and a Laundromat nearby, so we were very content. The free wifi was excellent, and we had not problems with it at all. Would definitely stay here again, we were sad to leave! Thanks Hotel Vertigo for having us x
Hotel Carlton, a Joie de Vivre Hotel Very good 8.2 The hotel was great but the staff really made the stay. Everyone one of them was in constant high spirits and they made it a pleasure to stay. In fact I'd happily stay in an underpass if this lot were there to keep my spirits up! A very funny, warm and caring atmosphere. Loved it and them!! Thank you one and all. NB upon check-in, if reception ask for your blood type they are just kidding (after replying 'cold' on behalf of the girlfriend I had to reassure her that SF is quirky to say the least and it is best to get in the flow at the earliest opportunity). Likewise, upon departure if they tell you you are not allowed to leave...ever, then again, they are kidding.....I just wish they weren't! A magical stay in a magical city. :)
The Hotel California Good 7.5 Very beautiful, very confortable, very nice bedroom and bathroom!!
Union Square Plaza Hotel Pleasant 6.5 + Nice location with shops and restaurants around + Clean room + Boiler with hot water downstairs
Clift - A Morgans Original Very good 8.2 The ultimate hotel to stay in San Francisco ! The staff is very friendly and helpful, the doormen are the ones with the best knowledge of good places to see. Breakfast-buffet is based on european thinking much better than all the others you will find in the small cafe's around (choice of evereything you want). We had a calm room at 7th floor (719....end of the floor), lot's of space for our suitcases, bathroom nice and in a good shape. Minibar offers more than you need (+helpful things like a charger, good shaving set....). We mostly experienced the city by walking or with the tour bus (Hop on, hop off....much cheaper than a taxi) and recommend to visit Hayes, which is a chilly and calm part of the city with nice restaurants and shops). And finally one word to the critics of other visitors: if you read before you book, you should know, what you will get ;-) Why then complaining?
King George Good 7.5 Very well-located, very close to Union Square, and the other shopping districts.
Dakota Hotel Pleasant 6.6
Beresford Arms Good 7.7 Excellent atmosphere, they have captured the old English style with nice decor and slow elevator, but fortunately water is running AND with hot water :-). Afternoon wine&tea session was plentiful. I recommend the junior suite we had, it is on the top (8th) floor and had big bathroom and kitchenette. Well worth the extra nominal few bucks. We will definitely make this our standard hotel while in San Francisco.
