The accommodation is so beautiful, I didn’t want to leave! Pessa is a wonderful host and there is a very good breakfast prepared for the morning. it is in a great location, just a short walk away from the quieter shopping area as well as the busier port area with restaurants and bars. The accommodation honestly felt like a dream, every last detail was perfect. There is tea and coffee available at your leisure throughout the day too. I hope that I can come back to La Rochelle one day and would definitely stay here again!

The location at the marina is beautiful, and was very peaceful despite the funfair in the main square. Florent spent a lot of time explaining everything about the boat and gave me recommendations for where the locals go to eat. Certainly the restaurant I chose was absolutely fantastic (Tonton Louis at the fishing port, a couple of miles along the coast)! The boat has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, although the shower is typically tiny, so I chose to use the marina facilities located just at the end of the ponton, which are reserved for "badge holders", i.e. not open to the tourists. I cycled everywhere - and if the weather had not been as lovely as it was, there is also a floating shuttle ("bus de mer") from the marina to the vieux port and back. The only - very minor - drawback to the boat was that it was not overly warm, but then it was February and boats are generally not going to be as well insulated as houses! The two heaters provided were just about sufficient to keep the boat cosy. A very unusual but delightfully memorable stay.

The courtyard/backyard garden area is beautiful, providing a sense of peace. The personable and friendly host made wonderful sweets and preserves with ingredients from her garden for breakfast.

We had a great stay at this apartment, and would not hesitate to stay here again. We drove up from Bordeaux, and Benoit met us with the keys and to give us a walk through the apartment. The parking is just a short walk down the next street. Apartment is well appointed, we were able to cook a couple of dinners, get some laundry done - and very much enjoy our time in Old Port La Rochelle, just an easy walk away.

The room was amazing, it had a nice balcony and Alain was very helpful in explaining the features of the room and giving me recommendations for the city in perfect English. Bed was very comfortable and there was lots of room to stretch out. Good kitchen facilities as well and the Nespresso was a great touch

The appartement was first class. Superbly equiped and not a single detail missed. Fridge, freezer, double oven, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, detergents, iron and even a parasol & beach mat!! The kitchen has everything you need in terms of pots and cutlery. Ideal for the expert cooks! Lounge has an office desk and chair and a huge 55" telly. The settee converts into a queen sized bed which was surprisingly comfy and I hate sofabeds. Not this one though. Now about the city: The cleanliness, politeness of the people, and appeal of the area. Public transport at 2 steps from where we stayed which was punctual, reliable and aplenty. You only pay 5 Euros for a 24h ride anywhere in La Rochelle for up to 5 people. Talk about good value! We were impressed with how La Rochelle is organised in terms of infrastructure. Separate bus and cycle lanes away from motor vehicles lanes which are completely segregated which makes cycling the safest in the world. Plenty of bikes to hire at good value with plenty of docking areas around the city. (Yélo) The cherry on the cake is the fresh food, fruits and desserts. The French are strong in this area. They have a fresh fruit&veg open market every Monday and it's a treat. Also no nasty big supermarkets presence like we have in England with mini tescos and mini sainsburys and the likes. Small business is clearly protected with plenty of cashpoints around something that's clearly disappearing fast in England. The youth are polite and well brought up. I have not heard a single swear word in the whole 8 days stay. No tattoos and no fake eyelashes, just classy youngsters with classy parents. I cannot praise the locals highly enough. We will definitely come back.
