I really liked the location, so close to the creak and the historic sites and the souks. The courtyard in the hotel was marvellous to chill out in.
Wifi was not always accessible everywhere, but good enough.
Silence, charme, the courtyard for eat and relax
My room was small, with few space for suitcase and personal belongins: I suggest to put a table to pack/unpack
The charm of the facility. Breakfast. Large bathroom. Comfy bed. The cat in the lounge room.
No desk or table to work on in the room. No luggage rack to hold suitcase (used the floor). Lighting could have been brighter in room. LACK of PARKING. Difficult to locate the place. Could not open room curtains or door, because people would be looking in from the courtyard (or trying to come inside).
Helpful staff and high speed wifi all round.
That its only 12 rooms in this hotel.
Location, location, location Very very quiet, yet central Room was large and clean Funky - in a good way Excellent free wifi
Could add a bit of a more modern touch, although everything worked fine. We liked the funkiness, but some may not appreciate it.
The hotel is an older style which has some character often lacking in Dubai. The food in the cafe is fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and tries to be helpful. the bed is very comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean.
The rooms are quite small and relatively dark. The bathroom in particular was too dark to easily shave. There is very little sound barrier between the rooms and the cafe. It is difficult to find and cannot be reached directly by car.
Peaceful, interesting surroundings inside the XVA's walls helped us relax after long flights and days spent touristing. The location was great too.
Menu was short. Over a week that could mean repeating or eating away. It wasn't a problem for us as our stay was shorter, but I can't think of any other dislikes
Great setting in a beautiful old courtyard house with a wonderful art gallery. Amazing breakfast. Good wifi. I think it would be hard to find a more authentic or charming spot in Dubai.
We had a few issues with the bathroom plumbing but nothing terrible.
Conveniently located near Old Souqs and Dubai Museum; authentic Arabic experience. Unique layout and art work.
No parking, hard to find, wouldn't recommend more than a night or two.
Very nice breakfast area. Good wifi service. Very friendly staff. Quiet location. The hotel is also an art gallery which creates a very nice atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Small room. Somewhat limited space for clothes.
Character Cuisine Peaceful Excellent staff
Lack of parking Wifi did not work within the room. Not near metro. Difficult to get a taxi.
The quality of the food. The peaceful atmosphere. The staff.
The bed was hard. Difficult to get a taxi and not near the metro.
Loved being in the old part of Dubai and away from the high rises etc. I found this hotel to be a peaceful retreat from the 'modern' world.
the serene nature of the place, an oasis of old life in the glitz of the surrounding, friendly staff
no tv but could be seen as a benefit, breakfast could be a bit more filling.
-Inspiring, simple, elegant and artistic decor. -Each room is unique. I stayed in room 7. I am 6'4'', but was perfectly comfortable on the large bed and high mounted rain forest style shower head of the walk in shower. - The hotel matches the great Character of Al-Bastakia (the historic area). It's a great pedestrian area to explore. - Peace and quiet - The staff are helpful, friendly and professional, but also relaxed and laid back (which translated to me feeling more relaxed). - Mona, who I believe is the managing owner, is attentive and friendly - There are two inner courtyards with trees! - There is an on-site art gallery and gift shop - Excellent food and plenty of vegetarian options - Great toiletries (bath gel, shampoo, conditioner).
- While I have no complaints at all about the hotel, there were some mosquitoes in the central courtyard where the main dinning area is located. It was bearable, but it did shorten the time I spent at meals. It was a small price to pay for being able to have breakfast under the tree. Also, the traditional bolt-style locks on the exterior of the doors can be drawn closed when you are inside, which would make it impossible/difficult to exit the room if someone closes it from the outside.
Wonderful location Basic but adequate facilities Amazing and helpful staff
Taxis have no idea where it is, insure you have the address and hotel number with you
The hotel was located in the lovely historic area of Bur Dubai allowing you to experience the real Dubai. Each room has it's own unique style and whilst not large, it was very clean and well appointed. The breakfast in the courtyard was lovely, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The whole environment was very peaceful and relaxing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to experience something a little different.
Beautiful little art hotel, a hidden gem, would definitely recommend. Lovely staff and a tranquil atmosphere. Thank you.
Very quiet and pleasant hotel in historical area of Dubai. Lovely breakfasts served in courtyard, room comfortable and clean. Staff helpful and friendly.
Room rather small with no windows, but this is how traditional houses were built, probably keeps it cool in the hot summer
Very beautiful and peaceful environment. A feast for all the the senses.
No ventilation in bathroom.
The artistic atmosphere The food in the restaurant The friendly staff who waited with us in the street when we had to catch at plane at three a.m.
The price for the hotel was a little excessive.
Food is really good
Almost everything. Very small rooms. Awful bad. Unprofessional and even rough stuff. Nothing to do in this area. I don't understand how this place could have so high rating. The maximum they can pretend is 6. It might be some cheating.
Love the revived area and walking to event I was attending at the newly opened "Writers' Centre". Bed cover lovely idea and the hurricane lamps. I am not sure about price as it is quite pricey compared to the chains-but that I guess is the difficulty of a small venture and economies of scale...
Water and coffee Dhs 38, of which the water was DHS 12-monstrous! The Reception area is not welcoming as the desk is too high. I made the comment and apparently it is to hide the computers etc, as the ambience is "old Dubai". The desk is cleverly made out of packing cases, but intimidating and one feels one is interrupting the Staff behind it!
The XVA Art Hotel in Bur Dubai is within walking distance to the Dubai museum, old fort, mosque, the boat dock across the creek to the souks, and gave us the feel of old Dubai. The rooms were charming, the garden restaurant and breakfast excellent, located in an artsy compound. A German business friend who normally stayed more upscale decided he wanted to stay here next time! There was interesting modern art throughout and some of the artists stayed here periodically. We split our time between this hotel and a more modern high-rise on the other side of the Creek with views of the town and Creek. Staff at XVA were great!
There were no good restaurant options within walking distance, the rooms were very small and with no windows (albeit charming in keeping with historical Arab architecture)
- lovely design, art, tradition, cozy, quiet, tasty and healthy food, friendly staff, fast check-in! I'll comeback most probably.
Wifi is not consistant in the room. Location isn't for everyone. No gym. Price is a bit high given that there are no facilities other than the resturant/cafe.
