The wonderful friendly staff & the setting around a beautiful courtyard
Love the exotic ambiance and intriguing neighborhood of Bastikiya.
So many spaces where it felt good to be…the guest rooms, the lounges and chairs on the verandah, the courtyard, the bathroom overlooking the roofs -even reception was full of interesting pieces.
lots of ancient place around the hotel
no parking area
Wanted additional pillows which were not available
Albeit a bit further out, this quirky converted home is gorgeous boutique hotel. It's a taste of old dubai before the high rise buildings, money and bling finishings. Great courtyard to enjoy breakfast in or work or relax and a walk away from a boat ride to cross the creek. Although the mosque is pretty close so the call to prayer does wake one up.
A pool would completely make this hotel the bomb
Art style and culture in a city of trade and business. Perfect location in a beautiful historical environment. Kindness and quality of all staff starting by the owner.
small size of rooms and...I missed a beer or a glass of wine...
The traditional style building & its interior design
This was a lovely little guest house which might not suit everyone but ii it's peace and tranquility you want this is the place to be.
Maybe a little expensive for what it is but it was still lovely
I really liked the location, so close to the creak and the historic sites and the souks. The courtyard in the hotel was marvellous to chill out in.
Wifi was not always accessible everywhere, but good enough.
Silence, charme, the courtyard for eat and relax
My room was small, with few space for suitcase and personal belongins: I suggest to put a table to pack/unpack
The charm of the facility. Breakfast. Large bathroom. Comfy bed. The cat in the lounge room.
No desk or table to work on in the room. No luggage rack to hold suitcase (used the floor). Lighting could have been brighter in room. LACK of PARKING. Difficult to locate the place. Could not open room curtains or door, because people would be looking in from the courtyard (or trying to come inside).
Helpful staff and high speed wifi all round.
That its only 12 rooms in this hotel.
Location, location, location Very very quiet, yet central Room was large and clean Funky - in a good way Excellent free wifi
Could add a bit of a more modern touch, although everything worked fine. We liked the funkiness, but some may not appreciate it.
The hotel is an older style which has some character often lacking in Dubai. The food in the cafe is fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and tries to be helpful. the bed is very comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean.
The rooms are quite small and relatively dark. The bathroom in particular was too dark to easily shave. There is very little sound barrier between the rooms and the cafe. It is difficult to find and cannot be reached directly by car.
Peaceful, interesting surroundings inside the XVA's walls helped us relax after long flights and days spent touristing. The location was great too.
Menu was short. Over a week that could mean repeating or eating away. It wasn't a problem for us as our stay was shorter, but I can't think of any other dislikes
Great setting in a beautiful old courtyard house with a wonderful art gallery. Amazing breakfast. Good wifi. I think it would be hard to find a more authentic or charming spot in Dubai.
We had a few issues with the bathroom plumbing but nothing terrible.
Conveniently located near Old Souqs and Dubai Museum; authentic Arabic experience. Unique layout and art work.
No parking, hard to find, wouldn't recommend more than a night or two.
Very nice breakfast area. Good wifi service. Very friendly staff. Quiet location. The hotel is also an art gallery which creates a very nice atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Small room. Somewhat limited space for clothes.
Character Cuisine Peaceful Excellent staff
Lack of parking Wifi did not work within the room. Not near metro. Difficult to get a taxi.
The quality of the food. The peaceful atmosphere. The staff.
The bed was hard. Difficult to get a taxi and not near the metro.
Loved being in the old part of Dubai and away from the high rises etc. I found this hotel to be a peaceful retreat from the 'modern' world.
the serene nature of the place, an oasis of old life in the glitz of the surrounding, friendly staff
no tv but could be seen as a benefit, breakfast could be a bit more filling.
-Inspiring, simple, elegant and artistic decor. -Each room is unique. I stayed in room 7. I am 6'4'', but was perfectly comfortable on the large bed and high mounted rain forest style shower head of the walk in shower. - The hotel matches the great Character of Al-Bastakia (the historic area). It's a great pedestrian area to explore. - Peace and quiet - The staff are helpful, friendly and professional, but also relaxed and laid back (which translated to me feeling more relaxed). - Mona, who I believe is the managing owner, is attentive and friendly - There are two inner courtyards with trees! - There is an on-site art gallery and gift shop - Excellent food and plenty of vegetarian options - Great toiletries (bath gel, shampoo, conditioner).
- While I have no complaints at all about the hotel, there were some mosquitoes in the central courtyard where the main dinning area is located. It was bearable, but it did shorten the time I spent at meals. It was a small price to pay for being able to have breakfast under the tree. Also, the traditional bolt-style locks on the exterior of the doors can be drawn closed when you are inside, which would make it impossible/difficult to exit the room if someone closes it from the outside.
Wonderful location Basic but adequate facilities Amazing and helpful staff
