This resort is not fancy but it is clean, beautiful location and wonderful staff. Many of the people we met have returned to this resort year after year for many years. I loved it and I will return next year! We went in January and it was mainly retired people there. Very quite but fun. Good entertainment every night.
The resort really needs to update the facilities to be top rated. The swimming pool is very small and is not a great location. The resort is so spread out it needs more than one pool.
The Rex Hawskbill is in a stunning location - prefect beach, tropical gardens, green hills behind. The staff are without exception friendly and charming. It's got everything you could want but, to be honest, the rooms and buildings are a little dated. But that's what makes it great value for money. If you are looking for 5 star luxury and every latest mod con, go somewhere else and expect to pay double. If you want friendly service at a place with charm in a beautiful location, book The Hawksbill now.
Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. We arrived early and they accommodated us brilliantly. Rooms are clean and beaches are private, safe and close to rooms. This place is good value for money, it is not luxury, but it's calm and relaxed.
Poor wifi signal in general, but ok in some communal areas. Rex resorts clearly need to invest in renovating some shabby buildings and tired facilities before they become a problem.
This is a very old hotel and the staff are not so friendly
The fabulous location the beautiful beaches.
The management - the property is run down. It could be a perfect place should more be invested in the property, in personel training and in the quality of the food served. Although Antigua is a major pineaple exporter, the Hotel run out of fresh fruit: on two of the three days of my stay no fresh fruit was available, tinned peaches being served instead! When there is a buffet, food is presented in flimsy and worn out plastic containers used to keep food in the fridge. The yogourt looked rancid and was normally left untouched. The facilities regarding water activities are very limited, not included in the price and run by an unprofessional guy who tries to overcharge you (asked for $40 when the price would be less than $20). The mosquitos eat you alive. Althought the windows of the bungalows have nets, these are not perfectly adjusted to the frames - the construction is old- so that mosquitos do enter. Mosquito nets over the beds would be indispensable for this kind of construction.
The staff were friendly, engaging and helpful. The hotel's secluded location afforded privacy and the beach was perfect. We wanted a quiet break and so this proved to be exactly what we needed to recharge the batteries. We will definitely return to this resort.
Food was great. Room was in a perfect location right by the sea. Hotel staff wonderfully friendly.
Would have liked a more 'sealed' room with less open shutters so that the mosquitoes stayed out and also to block out the noise of the night time wildlife.
Great solitude and natural beauty.
Food is adequate.
Our second visit in 5 months and we hope to be back in November. Thank you John and his dedicated team who make your stay at the Hawksbill extra special.
Leaving the Hawksbill!!
Location was fantastic. Food was good with lots of choice.
The truly wonderful helpful and charming staff and a beautiful location.
Rex Resorts seems to have lost interest in this hotel the fabric of the hotel is slowly but surely deteriorating. It would seem to us that Rex probably have another undeclared agenda for this property. Otherwise with so much repeat business why don't they invest in its continuance.
The lighting and the tired decor
Hawksbill is in a wonderful position along 4 quiet beaches
The hotel is beginning to look a bit tatty outside. A coat of paint and a new roof would make a huge difference
An amazing location. Three private beaches. Low rise accommodation hidden in the trees. Quiet, ideal for adults. No noise at night apart from the waves!!
The food was poor. Buffet almost every day. If you like a carvery then you will like this. Water sports was poor. There were no sunfish or any sailing dingies. Also the water sports centre lacked a motor boat for rescuing anybody in distress. Don't go to halcyon cove, the sister resort. Very busy, very 18/30. The a la carte restaurant Il Vigento Su Mare, no longer exists. Some meals were available in the Other restaurant but these were very expensive supplement. Staff were not overly attentive at dinner. It was often difficult to get a wine refill. Coffee after dinner was almost impossible to get.
The location of the Resort is one of the best in Antigua, secluded between its four Hawksbill beaches, very very quiet. Our Superior Bungalow was literally 10 meters from the beach (garden in between) plus other 5 meters from the water. Also, the buffet food changed every day which probably means they prepare whatever the have freshly available every day.
The facilities are very run down. There is little or no hot water during the period of major consumption (e.g. between 5pm and 7pm). Our room was infested by bed bugs (we believe many other rooms were), we were literally covered in bed bugs bites and the hotel refused to take responsibility for it declaring they were mosquitos or sand flies bites which was untrue as we constantly sprayed ourselves with insect repellent, also I killed myself one of the bugs one night. It is really disgusting thinking about those little bugs crawling on you at night. Upon our return we had to quarantine all our belongings to avoid infesting our home. In light of these fact we could only recommend to steer clear from the Hawksbill Resort, at least until the management will have done something about them.
Beautiful setting. Will definitely be back!
Staff and location were second to none
Water sports equipment needed updating.
The location was stunning - beaches beautiful and very quiet. Very laid back resort - Choice of water sports if required. Superior beach front rooms right on the beach. Air con not required as no glass in the windows just mosquito mesh and adjustable shutters. Good choice of food - very fresh and excellent wines.
The swimming pool - it was only the size of a plunge pool Could have done with a few larger towels - there was always a shortage - Most of the furniture in the reception could do with changing for something more traditional
