Score from 16 reviews Wonderful
magnificent views, short ride to the beaches. Staff very helpful. Amazing view from the restaurant at the top with a view of the sunsets.
There are many steps, since the property is on a hillside. The shuttle mitigates this, but you need to wait for it.
View from Carmichaels
Food quality at Carmichaels was very bad and not worth the money at all. Service was very slow and not to high standards. Wi-Fi did not work all the time, you need to login multiple times during the course of the day. Rooms are too small, furniture quite used and too expansive for what it offers.
Lovely rooms with good balconies and furniture. Carmichaels restaurant and the pool were very good. Excellent shuttle service to and from a beautiful beach. Staff were very pleasant and tried to be helpful.
Service at breakfast was not quite up to scratch. Undercooked poached eggs, staff forgot to bring things we'd ordered. Worst of all was the "rave" on Saturday night outside our room (no. 11) with mind-numbing music that went on until 2.30am. I complained.
The location is perfect, like stepping back in time to a life of luxury
The hotel itself was beautiful with its modern look..The grounds are well kept. The rooms are very clean. The staff is super nice (Kevin was an angel). Taxi's are all ways around. Shuttles take to a couple of the beaches at no cost..I will definitely stay here again.
More channels on the television, reason being when its raining out nothing to enjoy. Needs more selection for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
We had a very enjoyable stay at Sugar Ridge Hotel. The staff were truly wonderful. Very helpful and willing to give advice on where to go.They helped to make our stay memorable.
The rooms were beautifully situated but to get to them entailed bit of climbing. Not ideal for elderly guests and families with small children. We missed having comfortable chairs in the room. The cleaning staff were not always thorough. Perhaps a supervisor would help.
Friendly staff! Our room was great, we had one of the rooms with a plunge pool, which was a nice add-on. We were stranded after Tropical Storm Gonsalvo and Sugar Ridge managed to keep the power on and helped us when our flight out was delayed.
Some of the food options are overpriced for what you get. Luckily there are better options nearby.
We liked the room, the staff were the best, and the view from Carmichael's restaurant. The gym was very efficient and functional. The main restaurant had a great buffet breakfast with items you could order off the menu that were delicious! I would rent a car on the property and travel around. We did and enjoyed the freedom and finding places to eat ans stop for a beautiful view and beach.
The pools are very hot and you don't get a view of the ovean from them. Better going to the beach for the day and getting a room with a plunge pool for a quick cool down. Carmichael's was fine but not for the price. I would venture to Sheer Rocks for better food for the price.
friendly, professional and competent staff... didn't lose their cool - even in a hurricane! fabulous food and drink; pretty good value... great location and view... best for couples and people without kids (fine by us - we'll go again!)
sometimes the 'beach jeep' was a bit late
Plunge Pool; Daily housekeeping as thorough inc bed linens more frequently, at times; Locality in terms of walking distance to Jolly Harbour; Very local to Bus 22 connection to St. John easy Journey at 3 ECDollars per person; Breakfast feast was exceptional all types and West Indian to order, if requested; low season order per person and in season a Buffett style breakfast in order; Staff especially Vorn, O,Neil, Latoya and Sparkle...and Finally the at beaches: Ffyres Beache Long Bay (hire a car variable costs on Island); Jackie O Beach for a sunset view and take a picnic very romantic; Carmichael's was good views and food; approx £120 per couple; Mellinis Italian was exceptional and a favourite; and walkable from the hotel Paradise Cafe Restaurant (basic and clean) in St. John's (near Scotia Bank on Piggots Mall,/Markets Street, great local home cooked food 30 EC dollars for toe and EC 50 with a drink (alcoholic); a must visit lunchtimes roti is superb. Miracles opposite hotel good,to but a if
Rooms were clean and facilities were above standards. Grounds were well kept and view was excellent. Gym facilities were great
Food was below expectation. The room was infested with bugs , mosquitoes and you could find see dead roaches lying around. The bugs make sleeping uncomfortable. There was need for more power source close to bed for plugging of electronic equipment You need a standing iron board this one available make ironing much more difficult and time consuming.
From the moment we arrived the we were met with warm and friendly staff who were wonderful they made our stay. The resort is beautiful loved the infinity pool at the top. Our room was quite and we had our own little pool with view. Breakfast menu was anything you would like from omelette ..pancakes..fruit ..bacon eggs etc
Excellent hotel with good facilities, staff were friendly and the food was excellent
Costs racked up when we upgraded to all inclusive so probably cost about the same as some of the more exclusive hotels. We were only there for 2 nights but the lack of beach or activities may have been a problem if there for longer. It was also very quiet at the hotel but maybe because this was off season.
The staff were very friendly and the rooms and facilities are clean and tidy. The decor is lovely and the hotel had an air of class. The room I was in had it's own plunge pool which was fabulous on hot days. The pools are lovely and the infinity pool at the restaurant had a stunning view of the area.
On more than one occasion having rung down to the front desk I had to call back to follow up on requests. On one occasion we rang three times to get the breakfast plates collected. This eventually happened around 4o'clock!
This place has it spot on. The value for money with the free breakfast and WiFi (strong signal everywhere) is great. There is one WiFi in every room so when you go to the lobby or restaurant you need to log into a different server but they were super strong. You want all inclusive fine - get it. I didn't - had dinner there 3 nights - good food, fair prices, good size of portion. They have two bakers on premises and make all there bread and deserts there. AC worked great, room nice and cool, wife could dry her hair without passing out in the bathroom. Great shower and bathroom, the EMPTY fridge was great. Could order thru hotel or buy our own to fill it. Restaurants in walking distance for a change of pace. Jolly Harbour Grocery store is 5 mins away. Get a room with a plunge pool - very relaxing. I thought with hotel not on ocean it would be a pain going to the beach. NOT TRUE = this is best part of the hotel. They have a land rover to take you to 3 or 4 different beaches at no cost. We loved Turner's beach the most. The infinity pool at the hilltop restaurant Carmichael's was great as was the food there. Staff there is great - At restaurants you have David, Marion, and cla The best driver for the transport is Vaughan also Kevin S who can carry bags like no one else.
The walk to your room at night could be a bit more lit up, but that was solved by small travel flashlight we always have.
Large bed was excellent, air con was good. the staff were good - pretty good value overall.
Chose this hotel mainly for it's location through Booking.com - shows being very close to the airport when it's actually a good 45 minute drive away in Jolly Harbour. Very unfair, I thought. Also asked for a late check out and got charged $50 for an hour and a half - this should have been complementary for that length of time I thought. One night stay ended up being $US500 - quite expensive for a one night transit, and another $US48 in taxi fares to boot. Window in bathroom falling off the hinges and should be fixed.
one of the best view in the world, fantastic facilities, excellent restaurants, we even had a small pool in our private veranda
The infinity pool was amazing. The staff was also nice and helpful.
The wifi was a bit spotty.
Liked the gym, though not a real gym, better than most hotel gyms...
Isolated so that you are predisposed of having to eat at the hotel restaurant, which seems they realize the monopoly they have over you with a subsequent very high and over priced menu...
We just returned from a wonderful stay at Sugar Ridge. The resort is in a perfect location - although not directly on the beach, you can easily get to about 10 beaches in less than a 5 minute drive. We are beach lovers and were a little worried about staying on a property off the beach but it turned out to be just fine. It is only a stone's throw to the clear blue waters and the shuttle service they provide was very reliable. The staff at Sugar Ridge were absolutely superb! So friendly and willing to go above and beyond to assist with whatever we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed Carleen's company at breakfast everyday. She was a ray of sunshine every single morning. The room accommodations were just like the pictures on the website. Gorgeous views from the veranda, top notch bedding, and a very modern bathroom. We were very comfy in the room, even though we didn't spend much time there because there were so many beautiful beaches to visit!
The variety of the food at breakfast leaves a little to be desired. While it tasted good, the buffet changed very little day to day and there weren't many options to order from the menu. It'd be great if they could find a way to vary the options a little more, including more fresh fruit on the bar. My only other complaint is that housekeeping didn't always leave two sets of towels. The turn down service at night was nice and having towels refreshed twice a day was an added bonus, we seemed to be short a washcloth or full size towel almost everyday. In the grand scheme of things, this is pretty minor.
The price was not at all what we were quoted and the facilities were definitely not four star (more like a motel than a resort). While now on the beach, the location is a good jumping off point, but that one redeeming element doesn't outweigh the many negatives here. There are much better options for the price.
The position of the hotel, and the nice gardens. Carmichaels restaurant was excellent.
Reception and helpfull staff. Good rooms and gym.
Walk from beach. Resort seemed spaced out.
