You stay with the Family. They are all extremely nice and you feel really welcome. I really loved it there and recommend it totally
If you do not like to stay in a room of the family you might not get happy here. Also a little hard to find at night
The Guesthouse is a very nice place with a good atmosphere. It's out of the city and perfect for relaxing and meeting a lot of nice people. Florian, the owner, is a nice and entertaining guy with a lot of funny and serious stories about Albania. His family is awesome. They prepare breakfast and dinner of their homegrown vegetables, which are delicious. If you're interested in visiting Shkodra or nearby places Florian is very helpful with organizing. I recommend you to stay there, for sure!
I'd recommend this guesthouse to anybody. The food is excellent, the location is chill, peaceful and relaxed, and Florian and the family are so welcoming and hospitable, I never wanted to leave. Florian himself is definitely one of the coolest people I've come to know, and next time I return to Albania, I'll be paying them another visit!
I really can't say anything bad about my time there; only that I couldn't stay long enough. Definitely nothing that I could fill the "200 character minimum" for the so-called "negative" review. He's a great guy with a great family who has damn-fine food at a damn-fine place. Go check it out.
Florian's guest house is a warm and welcoming house. It's hard to find, so use the booking.com application. But once you are there it is great!
The wifi does not work properly.
It's small and not comfortable, we paid for breakfast but we couldn't take it because the guy was sleeping.
We stayed only one night but Florian proved to be an excellent host. The dinner/breakfast was absolutely superb (specially the dinner was amazing). I also took the laundry service and it was very efficient. I know he also organizes some city tours (I didn't take because I came with my car). Florian also allowed me to park my car inside his house and took out 3 bottles of his own wine production for sampling. Absolutely great place. The place is nothing fancy, but this should be clear before booking here, as it's more about the experience rather than looking for a 5-star hotel. Thanks for all Flo!
The place is a bit far from the city, so without car you need to take taxi (which shouldn't be expensive but they can always cheat tourists). Besides of this, and keeping clear the kind of place this is, all was great.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food. Gorgeous location and a lovely experience.
The guesthouse offered a very good dinner for €4.
The guesthouse is located roughly 5km out of the centre of town and down an isolated, unlit street. I was travelling as a couple but have travelled alone in the past, and would therefore not recommend this place for solo female travellers due to the location; I would have felt uncomfortable making the journey alone. We were given (very old!) bikes to get us into town, but again, I wouldn't have felt too comfortable riding these back at night due to the poorly lit street. Cannot fault the cleanliness of the guesthouse, but the properly is a family home with chickens which does lead to quite an unfortunate smell around the place!
The place is so nice we ended up spending more time in the garden of the guesthouse, than in the city!
Help with arranging transportation and accomodation in Theth and Valbona. Delicious dinners in compnay with other travellers. Good wi-fi.
Florian is very helpful to all guests helping with onward journeys and the like. If you like a bit of a 'home' feeling and a city escape then the location is quite good.
The location is about 5km from the city, which you may or may not like, but the website says 2km. The going rate for a taxi is 500 Lek (3.5euros approx) so factor that into your budget when staying here. Wifi wasn't great in the rooms but was ok in shared areas. Due to the distance self catering is a bit of an issue, some vegeterian food is offered for lunch and dinner but is not included in the price so again, keep that plan in your budget.
I have been traveling Europe for 9 months and i have to say Florian was one of the best place i have stayed! It is very convinently located from the city. Staying in Florian i felt more like i was invited to a Albanian family as a guest and everything was taken care! My room was very confortable with clean bathroom. Florian is the owner of this place and he is always on top on everything. I have never had such good food. Everything was homemade on the table and they also make they own wine! Florian and his family are very Humbling and welcome ppl with smile! I really felt i was treated very special. I recommend this place and will come back to see you guys!
The guesthouse is set on a peaceful and lush suburban plot/farm of a welcoming Albanian family. This is a very special experience which I have never gotten anywhere else - there is nothing fake, you are the family's guest and you get an absolutely genuine Albanian welcome. Mature grapevines grown all around the front yard, providing cool shade in the summer months. Florian's father presses his own wine from these very grapes (and if you ask, he will be willing to sell you a bottle or two). The neighbourhood has open views onto the Albanian Alps, and as you pass, you can see neighbours herding sheep and taking care of gardens. If you want a spa and a 5* hotel bar, this is simply not for you. But, if like me, you want a 100% genuine and relaxed taste of Albania - this is the place to go! Florian puts a lot of heart into running the guesthouse, so he is eager for any feedback or business improvement ideas which you may have and will take it seriously. He also enjoys discussing general topics and learning about countries over a meal and wine. If you ask, he will do his best to help with onward travel advice/plans as he has been working in the Albanian tourism sector for years. The free-to-use bikes are an excellent idea and a huge plus. I highly recommend using them as this is another opportunity to see Albania from the local perspective! Don't be put off by the seemingly messy driving habits. Shkoder is packed with local cyclists, so the drivers, in my experience, always look out for and are nice to bikes. Check out the fortress, the lakeside, the historical old town street and observe the fascinating market on Sheshi Ura e Maxharrit. The location is well away from the centre, but it is not at all hard to find.
Florians hostel is very good and he is a great guy. The place was very clean and everyone there is very friendly and helpfull. I would definantly stay here again. the meals and the wine were amazing + wifi outside is great.
I've stayed at Florian's several times and have always been impressed by the great family atmosphere. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is very different from your run of the mill hostel. Great hospitality.
We were drawn to Florian's guesthouse by the enticing description on the booking websites and the almost unanimous positive reviews from fellow travellers. With the help of google maps and a taxi driver we were able to find the location about 5km out of the town centre. The host, Florian greeted us kindly upon our arrival and we were impressed by the peaceful setting and canopy of grapevines overhead. His guesthouse is a fantastic place to meet interesting travellers from all over the world and exchange stories over a home cooked dinner. Florian is very open talking about Albania's history and we learnt a lot from candid descriptions of a very colourful recent past. Florian the host organised a fantastic transfer from Shkodra to Podgorica at the end of our stay (which for some reason don't exist via public bus?!). We would compare this hostel to a homestay as Florian and his family are very much omnipresent throughout the stay. This is a unique touch which gives an insight to a very unique country and culture.
We found the tours to be a little disorganised compared to other hostels. Florian, the host did get flustered on a few occasions as he appears to put a lot of pressure on himself.
