Never thought finding Villa Gjecaj as my favourite homemade food. Looking forward to be there again.
Nice location, hospitable staff and people arround in the village
Bad roads; Strict timing for breakfast and dinner; Poor breakfast
food, room, atmosphere...
We reserved 2 d-room in the new annex, but they gave a room in the old bldg,1 in new annex. Rat was found walking in the old bldg room and my friend was bitten by flea. the dinner is not good but you will have difficulty to go back from the village as there is no light. there is many cheaperguest houses in the village
The landscape is so nice. You really feel like walking in a postcard. The elderly couple running the villa are really nice and it is more a family stay than a hotel. So, do not expect the western individuality and retreat you might be used to.
If you stay in the main house, you are above the main hall where everybody stays and you hear everybody talking. The facilities are old and the bathroom is constantly under water due to a problem with the drain. The new house, though, is very modern. End of September is already a bit cold during the night (6 degree) and you have only one warm room in the evening: the hall where everybody is, including the couple.
Amazing Vila in an amazing place. We arrived there relatively late and got good hot home made dinner. Also the breakfast was nice. And the view there.. .
We got a room in a new building there that had no hot water
The guesthouse is very clean and located directly in the spectacular valley of Theth. The personal is friendly and the breakfast very nice for the price.
We expected a more domestic atmosphere in the guesthouse. But you have to know that it is very touristic. It is nothing really bad, but worth to mention.
- Beautiful surrounding - Breakfast and dinner was very good - Very kind owners - Clean, brand new rooms, comfortable bed
Getting there was a bit troubled, we had a flat tire, the road from Boge to Thethi can be done with a normal car, but only recommended for an experienced driver.
Perfect hospitality, amazing homemade food made from natural ingredients, beatiful view from balcony. If you made reservation, better book room with private bathroom in new building.
If you drive your own car, make sure you have 4x4. You will be able to see more in the area. Some places atmost not possible to reach by normal car.
The view from the terrace is dramatic. I liked the fact that there were farm animals as well. Also, the hotel is near the end of the trail from Valbona which was appreciated.
I think the fact that this hotel is the only one in Thethi offering the possibility to book from internet cut both ways. To be fair, the room was very expensive albanian-wise. I would recommend to just arrive to Thethi and check guesthouses as they are never full even in the middle of August. Dinner was fair but still a bit expensive (7euros is expenaive in Albania!). Breakfast was ok but we had to wait 50 minutes to be served. I guess the thing I disliked the most is that we appeared to be a bit invisible as guests. Albanians are all very friendly and welcoming but we didn't feel like that there. We are young people travelling but we still pay the same amount that 'normal' people would, so I guess it is fair to expect a equivalent treatment.
Nice house and good view on the mountains.
The price is high considering the service and the type of accomodation. The bathroom was not so clean; they didn't have a room ready for us even if we arrived in the afternoon.
This was a great homestay. Well located at the end of the trail, it was wonderful to be offered a choice of strawberry or plum juice at the end of a demanding walk. The homecooked food was delicious and plentiful. Highly recommended.
Central location Warm fire to dry clothes Gourmet food
Being lodged in a separate building that was still being constructed. The rain and unfinished path.
The surroundings are exceptional, really breathtaking.
To tell the truth, after reading the previous comments we expected something else. It is a nice place, however, it is very far from normal European standards. If you go there, we would recommend you to have patience with the staff and the overall organization. We felt bad for the teenage children of the family working a lot, looking exhausted and stressed, while the father was sitting and relaxing, not helping at any moment, but apparently it is a totally different culture which we can't fully understand... so we don't have the right to judge. It was just weird.
A nicely renovated guest house in an outstanding rural and natural setting in Thethi. The owners were lovely and fresh and well prepared food a delight. Given the remote setting and difficulty of road access, this place is remarkably well built and presented, including new rooms about to open which appear will be very well finished. Appears to be one of the better guest house in Thethi, although popular as its the only one with internet bookings at this stage.
This guest house does take in large groups from time to time which prove not to be enjoyable for individual travellers when they overlap. Suggest intending visitors check.
Fresh, organic, homemade food - hot bread, honey straight from the hive, cheese straight from the cows and vegetables straight from the garden! Beautiful views over the mountains, clean comfortable beds to flop in after a day of hiking
Nothing - it was perfect!
Villa Gjecaj is a welcoming guesthouse with a warm fire and complimentary refreshments. The food is terrific, the owner having been recognized for her traditional cooking in a 2012 certificate she proudly displays. Everything from the bread, milk, honey and jams were homemade.
The beds are a bit lumpy and with no insulation, you can hear everything. But after a hearty dinner and a strenuous hike, I slept quite well.
The staff at Villa Gjecaj were extremely good to me and my partner and made our stay in Theth one of the highlights of our trip. Lula is an incredible sweetheart and an amazing cook who produces beautiful home-cooked meals for her guests from the farm on which this lovely rustic house is based. Besi, the guesthouse translator, was so kind to us and helped bridge any linguistic barriers between us and the owners and was a joy to spend time with - the experience would not have been the same without him! The guesthouse is clean, comfortable, and spacious and has a wonderful view from a gorgeous terrace. We couldn't recommend more a stay at Villa Gjecaj - it was, as far as we could tell, the homiest guesthouse in all of Theth. We thought we should mention, however, that the guesthouse's beehives are located near to the house and that anyone with any serious allergies to bees should take this into consideration.
