Right at the foot of the castle, this is by far one of the best located hotels in Gjirokastra. Friendly staff and cosy rooms.
WiFi signal could be a bit better.
as if you sleep in a museum - excellently renovated, clean, with a nice view and close to the city center and fortress, incl. a nice breakfast on the hotel terrace; in short: the best hotel/B&B of our 14 day tour through the Balkan states
The Hotel Gjirokastra is located in a beautifully restored traditional house at the foot of the castle. We had a beautiful room. We could discover the city easily by foot from the hotel.
Great family-run hotel. Very clean. Extremely tasty breakfast.
Perfect location at the old town, near Castle Gjirokastra and Ethnographic museum. Friendly and helpful staff (family). Special breakfast. Easy to park. Beautiful traditional interior and very clean.
There's nothing to stress
Very good location and helpful staff. The breakfast was great, especially the youghurt with honey. Nice balcony with view of the old town.
One of the two double rooms had a really small toilet, it was not so easy to tale a shower. The price for this room should have been lower than for the other, which was instead much more comfortable.
This is a beautiful hotel in a perfect location. The family who run it are extremely warm and welcoming in a very unassuming way. The home-cooked food is absolutely delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely hotel.
Nice location at the old town.
- Warm friendly personnel - Good traditional breakfast - Authentic rooms
Location - close to all attractions, parking outside the hotel, small restaurant on site, breakfast was cooked by the owner's mother and was delicious traditional fare.
We had booked a room with balcony and were initially disappointed to find that the room was already filled and we were moved to a newer style room off the side of the hotel - no view although the room itself was fairly comfortable. Mattress wasn't great.
New, clean, everything works, friendly staff even if they do not speak any English! Good location, easy to park. Good wifi
Not easy to find. No curtain/screen on shower- not a fan of " wet rooms"!
Modest but clean room. Great location in historic old town. Easily accessible parking in front of the hotel. Local Albanese atmosphere in a positive way. If you prefer staying at impersonal international hotels where everything seems familiar, consider other alternatives in Gjirokastra. .
It appeared that the staff could communicate only in Albanese. So, communicating on anything but the most simple things was impossible. For example, the lamp attached to the bathroom mirror was dangerous. I got a powerful electric shock trying to direct the beam of the lamp to another position. I could not find any way to make the staff understand what was wrong (except making them to touch the lamp, I suppose).
Very helpful personnel (owners), beatiful rooms, very tasty breakfast.
Beautiful taditional interior decoration of the room, staff makes you feel as if you were part of the family or an old friend. Great position, good food.
I liked everything.
Delicious national breakfast and dinner for a very cheap price. Hotel run by a nice and friendly family. Close to center and sights (5 min walk).
Check-in process was very easy despite the language barrier. The room was very clean and really felt more like a home than just another room--with cute trinkets and decorations across the room. Delicious and plentiful breakfast.
Wifi was very bad. Location was very difficult to get to because of roads being closed for construction in Gjirokaster.
The location, the breakfast and the friendly owners
Unfortunately, we stayed in the last available room in the new and not in the traditional building. It was small, warm, without a fridge and had some noise, morning and evening, because it was over the complex restaurant.
Fantastic location on top of the old city with a great view. Well preserved old, ottoman house with fantastic interior, at least in our room. Very friendly owners and staff. Great breakfast. Absolutely recommendable.
Perfect location, close to the castle, the old town and other attractions, traditionally arranged and spacious rooms, private balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains anf the ottoman houses, ok wifi, enough place to park in front of the house
no shower curtain
Excellent location, excellent service, very nice and welcoming staff.
The hotel is beautiful, very well located. The owners are very nice and kind. The rooms are beautiful and full of character and the breakfast is delicious.
Hotel Gjirokastra is run by a friendly family in the heart of old Gjirokastra. It's a great location for visiting the old Ottoman area of the town and it's a short hike up the hill to the castle. The modern centre of town can be reached by walking in about 15-20 minutes (it's downhill the whole way, so we chose to walk down and take a taxi back up the hill). The breakfast was great, and the homemade raki is definitely worth trying. The restaurant also serves traditional lunch and dinner, prepared by the grandmother of the family. Do not miss the chance to try her cooking! The room was basic but clean and traditionally decorated. We had a large balcony with a great view of the old Ottoman homes.
It would have been nice if the room had a fridge, but that's about it.
They write: air conditioned room with balcony. But the suite didn't have neither balcony or air con. It was a very hot room. The "satelite tv" only had very few channels - with a bad signal.
Great hospitality, nice terrace with views, good breakfast with tea from mountains etc. A hidden gem!
