Hotel Babel is an attractive boutique hotel, located in a historic mansion in the heart of San Telmo, the colonial and bohemian area of Buenos Aires. This 4-star property is easy to reach and conveniently situated next to central Buenos Aires, Puerto Madero and other main highlights of the city. Hotel Babel is intimate in scale, with touches of unexpected and understated elegance. The 9 exclusive rooms open into a bright courtyard. This stylish 'boutique' hotel is in the historic and trendy San Telmo neighborhood within walking distance to good shops, cafes, restaurants, tango shows and Puerto Madero. I liked the convenient and fun location; also the staff are friendly and helpful. They were patient with me as I practiced my Spanish to ask for help with requesting taxis, finding ATMs, etc. The rooms are not large but they are modern and stylishly appointed. The hotel offers a nice complementary breakfast with a selection of eggs and other items made upon request. I also enjoyed the large and cozy lobby/library that is good for lounging, reading and working. Overall, Hotel Babel is an excellent value for the Ievel of accommodations and service. I would particularly recommend it for solo travelers or couples. The only downsides to my brief stay were the slow internet in my room and the hasty (I.E. I found stray hairs) cleaning job of my bathroom.

This boutique hotel had a wonderful interior with a modern aesthetic. The room was very comfortable, having a lovely, soft bed and a well-designed bathroom. The breakfast was delicious: a wonderful assortment of fresh fruits, pastries, breads, juices, cheese, with a small selection of hot breakfast items prepared upon request. The staff were incredibly helpful and made several spot-on suggestions for restaurants, cafés, shopping, and sight-seeing. Although we had a couple of complaints (see below), they were dealt with quickly and apologetically and were far outweighed by the positive qualities of the hotel. We tried to extend our stay, but left it too late and they were fully booked. When we checked into our room, some things suggested the room had not been completely cleaned before our arrival. Firstly, we had to request towels because none had been replaced in our room. Secondly, it appeared that someone had dropped a glass at some point before our arrival. There were shards of glass behind the toilet and the jagged base was standing beside the bin. Whether it had been forgotten by the cleaner or simply overlooked is hard to say, but a misplaced foot before noticing them might have resulted in serious injury. Otherwise the room was very clean. As a minor point, at one point we had to contact reception to notify them of the hot water not working, but it was quickly restored.

The hotel is in a busy and thriving district of the city [San Telmo], being just a few minutes from the main Buenos AIres centre itself - say 15 mins walk from Casa Rosada and the main shops on Florida. Flag down one of the stream of passing cabs, if you prefer, for $15-20 Argentine Peso's a time (about £3). The hotel itself has interesting decor, nice seating areas inc. an open courtyard in which to relax, a bar, loads of books & newspapers, free internet/wi-fi and is exactly the type of Argentine experience we wanted. The staff are so friendly and helpful with an excellent knowledge of the City both formal and informal - they are always available without being intrusive, and only too willing to help or just chat. Breakfasts are large, varied and all-inclusive, complimentary tea /coffee is availble on request (liberably and very willingly, in our experience). We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 seperate stays at Babel - using it as our base between seperate ventures to the South and West of Argentinaduring our overall stay. The hotel kindly guarded some of our luggage whilst we were away.........one of many nice gestures we enjoyed there. San Telmo is very lively in the evening and this can mean street noise throughout the night - traffic, revellers, etc, so don't expect much peace and quiet in the bedrooms on the front of the hotel. However, this was not insurmountable and we found earplugs were the answer!

The staff was very personable and knowlegable about the city. The room was very dirty - we found numerous hairballs on the floor and toilet and towels! Ugh and yuck. There were dustballs all over the floor in the courtyard (which was covered so it was not exposed to the outdoors) and the entry to our room. The bathroom was not very functional (I.E. nowhere to put toiletries, or even soap near the sink). Room was dark and sheets were torn; towels were frayed (not to mention, stained). This was supposed to be a superior room - what a joke. We ended up leaving and going to another (actual) boutique hotel that was clean!!

The best is the friendly, warm and careful service by all at the reception desk, especially Alex and JuanPaolo. Answered our many questions so helpfully. We very much appreciated the tray of tea (free of charge, amazingly) served when we came in tired and asked for it, expecting to pay, of course. The hotel design, which has apparently won an award, is impressive. Safety deposit box in room and free was great. Bathroom fine. Would return.Loved the area too. Room was a bit small, but OK for us. Could have done with a little table in there. You need 2 bathmats as every time you shower, the water goes outside the shower and soaks the bathmat! A small matter.

A small boutique hotel in the San Telhmo neighborhood. Easy walk to the plaza de Mayo to see the famous Casa Rosada, Cathedral. It is only few blocks to the Purerto Madero where you can have a very nice walk along the canal. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and a nice Mac computer for guests to use. The staff is courteous, helpful and speaking good English. Bed and pillows are very comfortable. The flat screen TV is good but no English speaking channel. Breakfast is included and can be arranged even early in the morning. A minor problem with our safe in the room.

“We liked the location, it was central and walking distance to almost all the attractions. Smack in the middle of tons of shopping. Newly built hotel, clean decent sized rooms and moderately priced with free wi-fi and very good breakfast. We stayed for 6 days and every time we came back to the hotel it felt like we were coming home.” Jack, Toronto |
