La Cantera is a designer lodge set high in the scenic El Calafate. Guests can enjoy a boat trip, 4x4 excursion, or guided hiking tour.
Score from 223 reviews Excellent
Located in centre of El Calafate, this 4-star hotel is elegantly furnished and decorated in neoclassical French style. The Unique Luxury Patagonia Hotel affords panoramic Argentino lake views.
Score from 181 reviews Very good
Excellent service from the front desk as they spoke English and were happy to sort out any excursions, taxis, restaurant recommendations etc. Stunning views from the front door and windows.
They only accept cash. This is a problem in El Calafate as not all the ATMs recognise European cards and there is a limit of 1500 pesos on each transaction (each with its own charge). Location is excellent for views but is a 25 minute walk into town or a 50 peso taxi.
Perfect view, beautifull view on the lake, chilling atmosphere, nice personal, possibilities of excursions directly from the hostel.
Slight disappointment for the jacuzzi which was not very clean nor hot nor fully operatinal.
Everything! We used 7 different hotels during our recent trip to Argentina and this was by far our favourite. Great staff: helpful, friendly and welcoming. They gave us excellent advice on local highlights, sorted out our car rental, helped us pick a restaurant...We dined at the hotel twice and it was very good too (and the view...!). The room was spacious, clean and very light; common areas wonderful and the breakfast was great.
It is slightly out of town, but a brisk walk to the centre takes only about 20-30 min and taxis are cheap anyway.
Staff at reception were very helpful and arranged all our excursions, which were added to our bill. Able to pay in peso's which meant much better value than paying dollars.
Lobby and view from lobby Staff was really friendly Location, location, location... Nearby (5 min walk) restaurant Macchiato is fantastic!
The bungalow we stayed is was nice but could not match the atmosphere of the lobby. The property could really benefit from some more 'design touches'. Layout of bathroom not very practical and a bit small Temperature control in room
Nice little hotel with nice views and pleasing esthetic.
5-10 minute taxi ride from actual town of El Calafate which means it cost about 50 Argentinian pesos each time we wanted to come and go- quite annoying. Not conveniently located at all. On site restaurant was only open 2 nights and there was no where else to eat so if you think you can just nestle down in a semi-secluded place like this, you really can't. Also their website states they offer bike hire but there was no such thing when we arrived. English speaking reception is only true half the time- only during the day.
The panoramic view from our cottage and the breakfastroom has been tremendous.Every staffmember tried do make our stay as comfortable as possible. The reception was mainly lead by family members, even the restaurant had a cosy and warm atmosphere and wasn't pricy. We enjoyed our stay in this Hotel with its wooden furniture.
Isn't really close to the city centre. But the area is secure to walk through if you don't mind a 30.Min walk.Otherwise a taxi isn't to expensive
While we were traveling our daughter got sick. The Blanca Patagonia staff were marvelous, found us a doctor, and helped us with all our needs (including those in the middle of the night). The hotel is beautiful, the view is lovely, the food is delicious. We had a car, so even the location outside of town was perfect for us.
distance to the city center
I loved this place! The view is wonderful, and the suite is a dream. Very romantic, very beautiful. Definitely I would recommend! The staff super friendly!
Everything was OK!
Awesome view, Fantastic rooms and comfort
This was one of my favorite hotels I've ever stayed in, and I travel quite often. The only negative I found is that it's a little far from the city center and you'll have to take a cab; however, the cab will cost you $5 at the most, and you get to have one of the best views in El Calafate, so that was a no-brainer. Wonderful staff - all 3 guys at the reception spoke perfect English and were very professional. Rooms were clean and cozy, we had jacuzzi-type bathtubs, and all this coupled with the perfect weather for our trips made up for an amazing vacation. Would love to go back one day!
Beautiful hotel with a beautiful view and window over the lake. Very kind staff. If was great!
The only minus is the distance from the center of the city.
Great location. Great view on lake. Excellent staff, very helpfull.
Payment only with cash
The view from the hotel, over Lake Argentina to Patagonian mountains beyond is simply stunning. The fact that our cabin had a modest kitchen, allowing us to prepare some meals on our own, was welcome.
You would not want to stay here unless you have a car; it is a 45 minute walk to the nearest grocery store and an hour's walk into the town. But if you have a car, the location is stunningly beautiful. The hotel's policy of accepting payment only in cash is a nuisance and a source of anxiety, given that the ATMs in the banks (a) will only dole out small quantities of cash at a time and (b) often don't work.
1) excellent design 2) very nice room with jacuzzi and fireplace 3) always warm in the room 4) very helpful staff 5) very clean 6) exceptional view from hotel lobby and the room 7) value for money
1) little bit far away from the city- need taxi 2) hotel accept only cash ( rate is not good) and no credit card 3) after raining all night the water was on on the wool inside the room 4) for dinner need top prebook the food you want
The suite was very nice
The staff were great - friendly and very helpful Lovely dining and foyer area Very comfortable and spacious room
The room wast a bit noisy as I was able to hear people next door and upstairs
Nice and clean rooms and lovely Swiss chalet style
Small-ish downstairs and tiny staircase that we couldn't get our suitcases up
Staffs were vary in term of service. Few of them were lack of service mind at all. Housekeeping did an excellent job. The location was very good and our rooms were warm.
Keys issue. The hotel used old style keys which caused us a problem to get in and out of the room.
Very homey feel of the hotel. Staff speak good English and helpful The food at the restaurant for dinner is quite good. This is a good option coming back from a long day of touring and activities, when you don't want to go to town to eat.
Breakfast is mediocre and the same every single day We had an issue with the bathroom the day we arrived; thus the low rating on cleanliness. Hopefully that was more of an exception as the overall hotel was clean and the rest of our stay was good.
Nice rooms and very clean. The hotel is at nice area around 5 minutes by taxi from El Calafate. The facilities are very good.
The reception during the afternoon did not speak English. The breakfast was very basic and only until 9.30am (it is not convenient if you are exhausted the previous day on the glacier tour or stay late out during the night). Check out time is 10.00 am which I considered very early as well.
The location is far from the center. You have to either get a taxi a lot, or rent a car. The staff is pretty unfriendly, only one nice and helpful receptionist during the whole staying. Rooms are decent but the furniture is pretty uncomfortable. Breakfast is very poor, the only warm food were boiled eggs, coffee sucks completely, no vegetables. The hotel restaurant was the worst, with unfresh meat. Plus you have to order your dinner very much in advance. If you want to chill in a nice chill-out zone, you can only do it before 12 pm, after that they turn off the lights and kick you out. Service is very poor.
Very helpful staff, beautiful property
You have to pay in cash and ATMs don't work very well in town. The place is very far from the town as well.
