This 1920's hotel is a little tired in places but all the more interesting for it. Great location close to Lima and Mayo subway stations, really helpful staff.
Can be noisy at times.
The lobby and bar are good looking and fun to hang out in, the bays are great as long add you've hit thick enough skin to enjoy them along with the good old boy regulars who view then add their fief.
Typically chauvinistic Argentine staff, as usual either you have to pay for true five star service, or go to hosteria level and make friends with the owners, here you'd have to stay a fortnight with his castellano to get past scowl mode.
staff: friendly, competent, helpful breakfast: O.K.
hotel and rooms: old, run-down, out-dated, ugly, loud not worth the price
Only plus point was location. One member of staff on Reception was pleasant and helpful but all others unhelpful. Hotel lobby was generally acceptable but upholstery stained and dirty.
Hotel was generally dirty and shabby - in urgent need of renovation. Bedrooms (stayed in two rooms over one week period) were both very dark and dingy, wallpaper was peeling off walls in several places, carpets and upholstery were stained. Bathrooms smelled of sewage and towels were old and grey rather than white. Hotel not worth more than 2 stars maximum. Photos available.
room was very worn- needs refurbishing
Good location, relatively clean and comfortable
Hotel was old and tired. Staff did not speak English.
historical hotel, nice entrance ans spa near everything in downtown, close to metro station kind staff good breakfast
needs some maintenance my room was near the service elevator and was noisy.
Loved the style of the hotel The Swedish and Turkish baths were fantastic The breakfast buffet was extremely good
Room was dated and small. But that's ok. The wifi wouldn't work in our room on the third floor.
Good service and room for the price paid. Good breakfast and very good location. Nice staff
Very noisy air conditioning and poor internet connection in the bedrooms and bad insonorization.
1. The staff. Very nice and helpful. True professionals customer minded. 2. The location at the very heart of Buenos Aires micro-center. 3. The masseurs at the wonderful Spa.
1. The upholstery of sofas and armchairs at the lobby. For little money they should be redone to match the marble and beautiful hall architectural and decorative elements. 2. The breakfast quality does not reach average of similar hotels.
Breackfast buffet was included in the room rate. Near atractions, Bus and Metro stop right infront of Hotel.
The lobby and dining room reveal the elegant history of Castelar. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and one rainy day we stayed in to order lunch and enjoyed the food very much. The staff we encountered were all polite and helpful. The AC worked well which was important during our hot December stay! Plumbing, shower, all fine. Bed comfortable, everything seemed clean. We very much enjoyed spending an afternoon in the spa and the cost was so reasonable!
The hotel is in need of new carpet everywhere, very worn. The threshold in our bathroom came loose during our first day. Our three teen daughters were moved twice to find a room with functioning AC - but kudos to the hotel for continuing to seek a room that was satisfactory!
The location was good at central downtown area. Staff especially the front desk reception staff were helpful.
Food was a problem bieng vegetarian could not locate any Indian restaurant nearby to the hotel
The hotel location was great and so I can forgive it for the leaky shower and sink. My room on the tenth floor faced the back of the hotel: it was quiet, got the daylight and had a nice breeze through the windows for the hot nights (early December). Reception were always helpful with locating obscure tango venues and advising on public transport. Breakfast was served 7-10 (10.30 weekends) with plenty of fresh fruit and bread every day.
Wifi reception was unreliable at busy periods and not available outside the reception/lobby. Bath plugs were available from reception. Sauna was free for guests but not the jacuzzi. For a two week stay, breakfast bar could have done with a bit more variety. No tea making facilities in the room.
