Credit card machine was not working b/c telephone comopany wasn't coming to fix it. More of a systemic problem that the hostel itself though.
There isn't much that sticks out about Ideal Hostel, which is exactly what makes it a great place to stay. I did not notice much of a difference between staying in the hostel or in my own apartment Stateside. The bathrooms, beds, pillows and sheets were clean, even the common-area bathrooms. They also encourage the idea that Ideal is a community - they plan pub crawls, soccer games, etc for "residents" to participate in, and have a living room-bar that let me get to know the other hostel-ites, and wound up having some pretty incredible nights out, and nights in just joking. Ideal had very helpful and trustworthy staff, which is what truly made it a great place to stay. I left a VERY expensive coat there, and considering I caused a stir earlier in the week by losing the key to my safe, figured the jacket would've disappeared. That has been my experience elsewhere. Ideal were very proactive contacting me with updates and asking how they could help, and held the coat for almost two weeks until a friend could pick it up. Trusting your surroundings is what really lets someone sleep at night. The accomodations and the staff made it easy to feel clean and comfortable while I was there. There's nothing more I could have asked for 25 bucks a night.
