Excellent location, extremely friendly staff, great breakfast. In general great value for money.

We really enjoyed our stay at La Cantera. The staff was excellent and very helpful. As the hotel is a bit out of the city (15 of uphill walking), they offer a shuttle service which we was quick and easy. The breakfast was a spectacular spread, just what you need to get you ready for some glacier trekking!

The only thing that I didn't care for at La Cantera was one of the waiters/receptionists who seemed particularly unwilling to help us (from begrudgingly pouring our coffee at breakfast to being almost unwilling to help us get a bus schedule). He did not have this attitude with the other guests, so I think it may have been a prejudice against our age or our backpacker status. I found all the other staff to be exceedingly helpful and cheery.

The staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The food in the restaurant was very nice too and very reasonable. I thought this hotel was good value for money.

Georgina at the reception was ver lovely, efficient and helpful. And the Chef Agustin Velazqez simply outstanding. And the breakfast and the views and moreover the hotel seems to be gay friendly!

Comfortable room with small terrace looking down to lake. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Excellent free taxi service to downtown area and back during the evening makes up for poor location on outskirts. Habitación comoda con vistas al lago y terraza. Desayuno bueno y variado. Taxi gratis por la noche al centro de El Calafate compensa la mala ubicación del hotel.

Attitude of staff. I emailed in advance to find out about transport from airport. No reply. On arrival I was told "all emails go to Buenos Aires not here, and they never reply". On departure we asked the hotel for a cab back to the airport and we were scammed. The driver put on a meter and overcharged 50% above going rate. If you go, arrange your own "remise" from town. Actitud del personal. Mandé un mail antes para preguntar cómo llegar desde el aeropuerto y no respondieron. Cuando llegamos dijieron "todos los mails llegan a la oficina de Buenos Aires y ellos nunca responden". A la salida pedimos un taxi del hotel y el taxista nos cobró 50% más del tarifa normal. Mejor llamar una remise directamente.

It was an average stay but in our opinion over priced.

We had a problem with a leak in our bathroom that meant the room smelt damp and this wasn't resolved while we were there despite us contacting reception. Overall an ok place if you just want somewhere to crash after being out all day but definitely not the best value of places we stayed in Argentina.

The staff was wonderful and the food outstanding. I had dinner at the hotel two out of three nights.

Nice rooms. Not far from the main street. Proposes tours with hotel pickup.

WiFi not working very well. Staff is nonchalant but this is frequent in Argentina. You can here some noise from the other rooms but very soft. No real restaurant.

Breakfast was ok

We were totally disappointed by the hotel; we are not the kind of people who complain about everything but we really expected much more from the hotel. The staff barely says hello and some of them speak very bad English. The hall was terribly hot and there was no air conditioning. Room and structure need renovating since it's a four star hotel. The position is quite far from the city center on a dusty road.

Excellent, attentive, very helpful staff. These folks exhibit what the service industry should be. Great breakfast.

Not in the middle of downtown.Only several blocks away, but uphill, and unpaved (as many side streets are). They do offer very limited shuttle service. This place would be perfect if location was better, but it is otherwise so good that, for me at least, the enormous positives more than outweigh this.

The service was excellent and in paticular the chef produced some wonderful meals.

Although we were not concerned the location is about 10-15 minutes walk from the main strreet over some dusty roads. However all the tour and airport transfer bussses collect you from the hotel.

La Cantina reminds me of a lodge you might find in Wyoming (usa). It has a gorgeous view of the mountains and the bright blue lake in El Calafate. I could have sat in the lobby or front deck all day and admired the view. The staff at La Cantina saved our vacation. Our flight was delayed by 18 hours so we ended up only having one day to do the ice trekking tour and we had to act fast. We did not arrive at La Cantina until noon and they arranged everything for us in about 10 minutes including a taxi that took us to the boat launch to the glacier and the last available ice trekking tour. I will be forever grateful. The rooms were clean and pretty large (compared other rooms we had in Argentina). You can wait to town in less than 10 minutes. Delicious breakfast (with dessert!) I would definitely stay here again (I did not want to leave).
