Actually, compared to the photos advertised, the real thing is not so gorgeous: leaking basins and toilet bowls and a musty smell in the rooms. L’Hôtel is an old house sliced into a lot of bedrooms, a charming idea, were it not for the worn-out aspect of the furniture and other conveniences, the insufficient suply of hot water after 10pm and lack of air conditioning (although apparatuses are provided for each room) in the morning, probably in order to expell guests out of their bedrooms. Mutatis mutandis, in winter rooms must be very cold. Due to the large number of rooms/guests, you may occasionally have an uncomfortable feeling of promiscuity, as you involuntarily hear other people’s private conversations from your own bedroom.
Considering the prices charged, not only for the rooms but also for other items (a small bottle of water at US$ 5.00), the whole thing turns out to be just a delusion. You may find better choices in Palermo itself.
L’Hôtel has some strong points: a very friendly and helpful staff, they do their utmost to make guests feel confortably; also, the house is agreably silent, despite its location, on one of the main streets of the region. For the fans of fashionable restaurants and shops, there such things half a block away.
