South American Bacchus Paradise
It is said that abundance in Mendoza was so great at the beginning of the 20th century, that the Wine Festival was celebrated pouring this elixir in the city’s fountains and street-side irrigation canals. Located at Mount Aconcagua’s footstep, the city is an oasis in the middle of the dry beauty of the central Argentinean Andes.
Originally inhabited by indigenous peoples, the colonial city was founded in 1561. The irrigation system created by the natives was further developed and became an icon of the city, currently watering near 100,000 trees. The design of the central district includes squares and avenues, and has some of the best luxury hotels in Mendoza.
It is surrounded by vineyards and cellars producing world-class wines. Don’t miss the renowned Malbec variety, and try some of the boutique hotels and rural ‘estancias’ in Mendoza’s wine areas.
Its historic relevance comes from the fact that Argentinean hero José de San Martín prepared here his pioneering crossing of the Andes in 1817, aimed to liberate Chile. This amazing trip with mules and on foot is repeated every year by a group of enthusiasts. The area is actually well-known for mountain sports like hiking, rafting, and skiing.

I really like Mendoza but never the less the city is to relax shops are completely close Sunday which iis not suitable if you go for weekend and need to buy something. Mendoza is a great location for food & wine lovers. Great vineyards are close by, as is the option to experience a ‘Gaucho’ horse ride & dinner up in the Andes. Lovely town centre with beautiful parks. Great place to visit!

Mendoza was a lovely city, with almost every street having big shade trees. It felt safe to walk around in, with lots of people out in the evening, and so many places to choose from to eat, often all in the same location on both sides of the street for several blocks, so all you have to do is pick one. There's a lot of variation in the quality of the places available to stay, so I would recommend one with a lot of good reviews. There are also a lot of good tours available, to vineyards, horseback riding, the Andes mountains, and more. There are only two cities in the world that I have liked visiting. One is Vienna Austria and the other is Mendoza. I had no idea that I would like the city as much as I did. Tree lined streets and very clean for the most part unlike other cities I have been to. The people were very nice. All the large cities in the USA are awful in this present day. Not Mendoza. I would go back just to spend more time there. You can have New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, etc. Mendoza is well worth a visit.KimUnited States - 10Scored 10

What I like Mendoza are the amazing tall trees along the streets. Beautiful parks…plaza independencia (big one)…and there are smaller parks…plaza espana, plaza chile, plaza Italy, plaza San Martin. There lots of ice cream shops..cheap.

Breakfast was ample. lots of choices on fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts, and also breads and eggs. The personnel were excellent. The reception people we spoke to, 3 different young men, were great. Very helpful, very knowledgeable and genuinely interested in making our stay a success. We can recommend this hotel for a couple of days stay.
