눉This is nothing against Posada El Barranco, for it has to do with El Chalten, with a tiny population. In regards to internet, the town shares one satellite connection to the internet. You can get basic internet and check emails through wifi, but don't expect to be streaming Netflix or YouTube. But it doesn't really matter because why would you be out in the beautiful region of Patagonia with world famous scenery and outdoor adventures, to be on your phone/laptop? C'mon people, get outside and enjoy why you are there!
눇Upon arrival to Posada El Barranco, my friend and I were greeted by Dardo, the owner who runs the hotel. He is such a nice guy. Not only did he greet us warmly but he showed us to our little cabin room and sat down with us, going over a map of the city and where to find things like an ATM, gas, grocery store, restaurants that were open during low-season, etc. He also provided us with his mobile number to call at any time for assistance. And he went over all the hiking trails, where the start of the trailheads were in relation to the hotel and how we have to register our hikes with the ranger station (which is free, it's just to protect you if you don't return the paperwork, the ranger's will come searching for you). Every day we were out hiking, we came back in the late afternoon to find our room nicely made up along with a beautiful spread of food for next day's breakfast which included cereal, delicious bread with butter and jelly or sometimes fresh bread rolls, fresh juice, muffins, yogurt and fresh fruit. It gave my friend and I the needed energy each day for all the hiking we did. The last night in town, we saw Dardo at the one of three places open during low season. This was a great restaurant (Don Guerra), serving delicious food to refill our burned calories for the days' hike. I highly recommend Posada El Barranco if you are staying in El Chalten to hike all the famous trails around Fitzroy. Dardo is an amazing host and made us feel so warm and welcome while staying there.
