slight negatives were:
-extremely lumpy pillows - please invest in some new ones as they felt like they were 20 years old!!!
-initially was shown to a room with 2 singles rather than the double room I booked. No problem- they changed my room, but it was just 2 singles pushed together. Please buy some proper double beds. Singles do not cut it- whether you are sleeping alone or with your partner- they are not the same as a double bed!!!
-shower grouting has mildew which could be easily removed with some bleach and a scrubbing brush
-English comprehension of dining room and reception staff very limited (I asked the same man at reception 2 days running for wake up calls. I did not receive a wake up call day 1 at all; Day 2 I watched him appear to write the time down, but later when I wanted to check the time I had told him, he stated that he did not have it as my English was too hard to understand!!! (I guess this just means then that you ignore the request!!)
-the free wifi in both the rooms and lounge areas is extremely unreliable. It frequently dropped out and was often difficult to re-establish a connection
- 2 old computers with old hard drives that still take floppy disc(!!!!) in the communal areas for use...however, consequently frustratingly slow, unreliable and at times, both would not be working
-no printer connected to these and although reception happy to print your page if you email them the link of the page you want printed, this is cumbersome and not always convenient for privacy sake
-for the cost of 2 new computers plus 1 printer, I would say invest and buy some as when you are travelling, these are things that matter to your guests
- food of average quality
When all is said and done- would I stay here again? Maybe but I would first look to see what else is around but I suspect many others may be similar - it is a small town afterall.
Let me say up front that the 4 stars here in this area will not equate to 4 stars in larger, city type areas. That said, this hotel is a boutique type, which can pretty much be said for the majority of hotels in El Calafate
-has own restaurant and bar open till midnight which is good as the hotel is situated at the tail end of town- about a 20 minute walk from the main eateries
-overlooks pretty country side from the back of the hotel and some of the rooms
-heater in rooms very adequate even when it is quite cold
-dining room staff friendly
-pleasant outdoor area to enjoy a drink - also 2 nice lounge areas inside to enjoy a drink that are separate from the restaurant/ bar area
-free bikes to explore the area (if you can stay on with the wind!!)
-small but pleasant gym area
-nice touch with fresh apricots and plums for breakfast
