I liked Hallstatt and the location of the hotel was very good in the town centre.w
We actually stayed in the second house for this Hotel and my god it was a mistake. To start there is no staff in the reception so there are people constantly standing around with suitcases wanting to what the hell was happening. You have to ring a number to get someone to come over and 1 out of 3 times someone will turn up. Secondly the room we had, had no heating, we just happened to arrive when summer had suddenly ended and it was raining 2 days straight at 5 degrees. We were freezing and the windows and the balcony doors were beyond not air tight. Thirdly there was no water for a good few hours with no notice and when it came on the upstairs room had left there taps on and gone out slowly making our ceiling leak which started to reveal a frightening giant crack across the ceiling. Fourthly! Having complained numerous times that we were freezing and eventually we were given an electric heater which made the electrics trip all the time. As you can imagine 2 days constant cold rain and having to come back to a hotel room just as cold as outside without the basic utilities you would expect is a nightmare even more so that no staff was around its ridiculous. Birthday weekend ruined don't stay here!
Very traditional building that you can feel what it's like many years ago in that small old UNESCO village. Facilities provided is satisfactory in view of the old building, not fair to expect and compare with those in city.
No lift so will be difficult if with heavy luggage. Some may feel the building a bit old if you don't like the atmosphere. Restaurant downstairs was good but didn't open everyday when we were there. Can be difficult to find place for dinner.
beautiful historic Austrian house, beautiful views, beautiful interior, lovely lakeside setting, lovely people
a little bit more attention to detail could be required, i.e. no shower gel, no shampoo, or any other toiletries provided, apart from a tiny bar of soap
view restaurant not breakfast
Room with lake view
Dirty Extra bed not ready with linen, pillow. Breakfast variety not enough.
Location is good
Everything is perfect!Must recommend!
I can honestly say this this was the most pleasantly interesting lodging my husband and I have ever been to of all the hotels we have stayed in Europe. (3 Countries and about 12 hotels of various types..). Not only would we love to go there again, we hope to. This place is loaded with old world charm and is very eclectic. The hotel has been owned by the same family for several generations. The matriarch of the family, who you will see in the morning serving breakfast, was raised in this house. Her husband is a master woodworker who has a passion for refinishing antiques and building/restoring stringed instruments. His craftsmanship can be seen though out the lovely house, which seems to have winding staircases that go to seemingly hidden doors. Every detail seems to be unique; the doors inside the hotel are all different. The view from our room (#7) was lovely and we were perfectly comfortable and more than content. We cannot wait to go back. The staff was warm, friendly and accommodating. The breakfast room, which they had lit with red candles in the morning and a deep red rose at each table, was nothing short of breathtaking.
I hate to say anything negative about this place, because it's truly a gem. But I would have liked there to be more of a presence of staff around. We were there in the off-season (February 2013), which I think had a lot to do with it. But because the staff actually lives here, they do have their own lives to to tend to and as a result the reception area was not manned at all when we arrived. The blankets inside the bed could be upgraded. The rooms are small and larger people may have some trouble in the tiny bathroom. (My husband is 6 feet tall and he was fine.) Because there is no elevator, I cannot recommend this hotel for elderly people who are not able to climb a little.
Very kind and helpful owner and staff, food was excellent, great location, and magnificent view from room.
The breakfast was soooooo nice and perfect! The staff are really kind!
Clean toilet, clean sheets, old charm, very well maintained in spite of building's age (plumbing, water pressure etc.), beautiful lanterns opposite hotel lends a sense of whimsy, laid back atmosphere, great restaurant
Breakfast array was very limited, wifi spotty at times, but these are minor in light of the hotel's many other great points.
Easy to find the place. We have a great time to stay and really enjoy it. Thank you for provided us with balcony room. Good view and nice services.
Need to carry our heavy luaggages walk up to third floor. A little bite hard for us. But we understand it in this histories house.
We spent our honeymoon in Hallstatt, for us it was the best choice. I've never seen such a beautiful city among mountains with a lake. Braugasthof even made our stay perfect. This rustic, almost 500 year-old inn has a great location in the city. Lovely, smiling, helpful staff, owners give you information what to do or see in/around the town. Wi-fi worked properly in our room. The buffet breakfast is varied containing cold cuts, cheese, egg, vegetables, yogurt, cereals, sweet cakes. You can have supper downstairs at the restaurant. The food is affordable and comes with huge portions. I really recommend this accomodation if you're keen on old, thus inviting environment with a history.
The location and the history of the place.
Friendly staff at reception. Surprisingly nice food served at the restaurant.
No WiFi coverage in the rooms.
Very cozy hotel with a friendly environment. When we got there, my fiancee said "this is PERFECT", so what else do I need to say?
Very cosy and homy hotel with a long-long history. We have booked a room with a nice lake and mountain fantastic views. We have arrived late in the evening and the owners were waiting for us. Despite the fact that parking in the city is allowed only in special parking lots outside the center of the city (one should use free of charge shuttle bus) we had an oppurtunity to park our car just at front of the hotel door. Good breakfast. Claudia - the owner of the hotel (?) - is the best!
Wi-fi is not everywhere, but it was not a problem for us at all.
- great location and very good price - nice rooms - helpful staff - family atmosphere
- weak wifi connection
Divine location, wonderful old bulding, at least 400 yrs old.
The fact that heating atopped during the first night:( Really chili.
