Situated at the banks of the Salzach River in the heart of Salzburg, the Hotel Stein offers panoramic city views from its rooftop terrace. All rooms have air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Each of the stylish rooms at the Stein hotel features a marble bathroom and a flat-screen cable TV. When weather is nice you can enjoy the panoramic views of the rooftops of Salzburg already at breakfast. Mozart's Birthplace is only 220 yards and the Salzburg Cathedral or Salzburger Dom is just 550 yards away. The Hotel Stein has its own covered parking lot, which is located nearby and you can park in front of the hotel for 10 minutes. Hotel Rooms: 56

We booked an executive double for the location and views of the castle as advertised on bookin.com. Also for the roof terrace. We were 'upgraded' by the hotel to a junior suite. This did not have any view looking into other buildings. Bathroom did not have fixed shower only handheld in bath. Bathroom amenities consisted of one soap dispenser for both body and hair care - cheap detergent. Room was on sixth level we experienced noise during all nights from hotel staff cleaning and moving furniture across the bare floors. On arrival at 5am after overnight travel we were not offered help with luggage even though there were @ ten stairs up to the lift - I had to ask for help with my case. Rooftop terrace undoubtedly great view - service sketchy - forgetful - non existent at times.

Its position Highly over priced. No tea, coffee in room Towells very small. No bathroom products except basic hand.body wash. Only continental breakfast available. Breakfast staff not able to cope with amount of people. Roof resturant now closed during the day. Decorating loby outside of our room, smell of paint and noise from workmen.

Great central location with a fantastic view from the rooftop bar. Very comfortable bed. The room we were allocated didn't seem to bear any resemblence to the pictures shown on Booking.Com or the hotel's own website. When questioned about this, the hotel staff did their best to find us a similar room but did say that the pictures on their website were not necessarily indicative of all rooms. On one of the nights during our three night stay there was an exceptionally noisy 'club' night held on the rooftop terrace which ran on until 3am and resulted in us having a very disturbed night.

The hotel is in a very good position to visit the town. The room and the bathroom are very large, clean and confortable. It is possible to park the car in a conventioned parking near the hotel, at the price of 13 €/day. Breakfast is very good even if a bit too expensive. The structure of the hotel is old.

The staff was very nice and the location is great. They had a party on the roof top and the noise half the night was not acceptable.

Location is strategic and walking distance from center The room 208 is extremely small and the bed too, it does not justify neither the image nor the price paid.

I chose the Stein for its location and the price. It is a walk across the bridge to the old town and just ten minutes by city bus from the train station. The Stern is a lovely and charming little mid-priced hotel with five-star service and quality. I chose to stay in a single and it was plush and modern. The room was narrow, but it had a wooden floor and rustic furniture and a full-sized bathroom. The bed was very comfortable with oversize pillows. There was also a very nice leather chair to sit in. Lighting was excellent for reading. The big plus was the air conditioner. It worked very well. The wifi, though paid, was fast. Free wifi and a computer were available in the lobby. The terrace has a wonderful view. Be aware it has somewhat of a dress code, I.E., don't show up in sports gear or sports shoes. Some reviewers have complained about noise from the streets, but I found my first floor room to have good sound insulation. I wish they'd found a way to squeeze in a small desk or shelf to use my laptop. There were no English language channels on tv considering the overall high quality of the hotel. There also was no mini-bar, but the receptionist explained that they offer 24 hour room service for drinks.

Location was fantastic! The view out my window was of the old city and river. It was only a short walk from the hotel to pretty much any important location in the city. Staff were excellent. The bathroom definitely had a bad smell, not due to cleanliness issues, but the water.

Fantastic location for city centre and great bar with stunning views. Single room a bit pokey and the free internet was not available in the rooms for guests only in reception and the bar.

Once our room was changed after one night to larger room with view of fortress rather than small room with view of alley called Steingasse, we were happier. The person at front desk was good about that and did get us the better room. The location is good across bridge from Old Town. The view from roof terrace at night is good if you can get a table. Breakfast is not included and is an extra 16 euros per person per day which we did not do. They now charge for the internet, but we had booked before the change so were not charged. The elevators do not come to floors one and two so you use a combination of elevator and stairs with luggage.

Location is fanfastic, just overlooking the river to the Alt Stadt. The rooftop terrace has excellent views overlooking the old town and has a romantic charm about it. The breakfast spread was excellent, more sophisticated than I expected. The decor is wrong. It is too dark and has the wrong colour combinations. I was in a single room which was long and narrow, and to have dark mauve walls just brings the room in, instead of making it feel wider and bigger.

The terrace bar and cocktails were excellent. The staff were just not helpful nor engaging. The hotel is very transient due to the popularity of the terrace bar.

Very close to the old town of Salzburg. Modern design. Breakfast was far too expense at 19€. The parquet floor had some spots that indicated it had not been cleaned.

Great central location (just a short walk to the old town and shopping streets) with a fantastic view from our room and from the rooftop bar. The room and the bathroom are very large, clean and confortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good.

Location. Doesn't get any better. When they say the best view - remember that only half the hotel has views. The other half sees an alley. Elevator door won't open, the maid throws away your parking ticket, 19 euros for breakfast, really? Other than that the young girl working at the front desk was extremely friendly and apologetic. All would be forgiven if not for the price they charged. I expected more.

The room was lovely and very clean (the maid came both mornings and we were only staying for 2 nights). The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The Rooftop Terrace Bar was beautiful both at night and during the day. The location was superb, just a short walk to the old town and shopping streets. If we return to Salzburg we will definitely consider the Hotel Stein, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. However the view from the window was not the best (a brick wall). For the price we paid we did expect a slightly better room, however it was still very nice.

The hotel location was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room had a lovely view. The decoration was a bit over the top and outdated but apart from that, it was very good!
