There is nothing not to like if you want a nice, really nice, quiet hotel. It is perhaps the only hotel with a heated driveway in St Anton ! Erik, being a big and jolly Austrian chap does not however, understand the concept of serving his excellent and reasonably priced white house wine, (of which he is very proud) with a lump of ice as my wife prefers. This was a source of some good laughs...there is nothing not to like about the Gafluna.
OK, so you are not in the middle of St Anton but why would you want to be ? There is a free ski-bus outside the hotel, every 15 minutes, regular as clockwork, and two minutes later you are at the first lift. Without ski's, the Gafluna is a short downhill walk, (15 or so easy minutes) to St Anton and after a hard day on the slopes a little walk is good for tired leg muscles especially after a hot shower and a couple of beers in the bar with the owners Erik and Andrea. Use the bar at six o'clock until seven or eight for cheap drinks before you wander into town and you will not be disappointed. Erik does an interesting black/red/blue run option of schnapps. If you want to eat closer there are two excellent authentic Austrian restaurants nearby or Andrea will provide a decent pizza, fried chicken or weinersnitchel. The quality of this small but perfectly formed hotel is superb : We had a superior room on the second floor (22b) and it was just great. Free WIFI and perhaps the best continental breakfast that we have had in any small hotel in Europe (or big hotel to be fair). It is simple but just right. If we go to St Anton again, God willing, we will go back to the Gafluna not because it is good but because it is run by Erik and Andrea. Top, top people.
