Staff went out of their way to make our honeymoon a much more enjoyable one...
We stayed at the Gmachl ten years ago and found that the quality of the evening meal had improved. The breakfasts always were amazing. This time we were upgraded at no extra cost and were extremely satisfied with the comfort and cleanliness.
Everything was excellent. From the moment that we arrived at the hotel and with the outside road looking in a mess due to the local council digging up the road, however i was instantly assisted taking my luggage out of our car and taken to our rooms. We have children and after an 9 hour drive we were obviously tired and the excellent staff could see that, and offered a fast checkin for us without the usual long typing on their keyboards, and within just 4 minutes of arriving we had our room keys and also along the way we had our room upgraded to a suite due to the fact that our original rooms were on opposite side of the hotel and being next to each other meant that our children were close by. Our suite was upgraded at no cost and was a really wonderful room with lots of space and features. That was just the arrival. Then we were kindly offered a time for dinner and this was a nice time after we arrived with some downtime to relax before eating. the rooms are fantastic. With DVD players, balconies, huge bathrooms with lovely full baths and bathrobes for each person. So refreshed we went to dinner and the staff were really attentive and took really good care of us. Cheap dinner and excellent quality meant that we left to our rooms feeling really satisfied. Breakfast in the morning was really amazing. Great food on offer and a real orange juicing machine that meant you could create your own freshly squeezed juice instantly from freshly delivered oranges. Fantastic! Then the rest of the hotel. The gounds are immaculate. The gardens are wonderful. Then you find an amazing spa built into 2 levels of the hotel. outside hidden and private hot jacquizzi and plunge pool with really great relaxing rooms. upstairs an indoor and outdoor pool, salt bath, various steam rooms, various sauna rooms with fresh herbs and plenty of space to relax. we could have spent weeks here and we only stayed for 2 nights.
absolutely nothing apart from we had to leave far too early!!
Everything ..... couldn't fault a thing PERFECT surprise treat for my Sister's birthday
This hotel is excellent for weekend breaks. We stayed for 4 days which was a bit too long. We loved the Spa facilities, the grounds and the gardens. The atmosphere in the hotel was very Bavarian, which was nice. The staff who spoke English were very friendly but there were not so many of those. It took some time to understand the rhythm and protocol of the hotel and spa but once done it was very pleasant. I particularly enjoyed walking the corridors in my bathrobe.
Language was definitely a barrier. Only a select few of the staff spoke English, and all the pamphlets and information sheets were in German. The rooms we stayed in were not very comfortable, but I think there were other more comfortable and more expensive rooms available in the hotel. Unfortunately we were not given a choice. The location would have been better if we had stayed in the hotel, but although not very far from the centre, taxis and transport were a hassle. The food although supposedly gourmet, was not very impressive. There was a warm and friendly atmosphere in the bar but we felt excluded because of the language problem.
Wellness area Breakfast buffet Restaurant
Loud music from the bar during the night
Location to Salzburg good
Rooms small and some of the carpets in the shared areas looked a littel grubby. Also meals are expensive. Staff friendly enough but not a very personal hotel. Fell slightly below standard expected of a 4* superior hotel, for me.
