Dating from 1878, Altstadt Hotel Hofwirt is right next to Linzergasse, a pedestrian zone in central Salzburg.
Score from 3020 reviews Very good
The room was very large which included the bathroom. There was also ample seating area including a couch, table and chairs. The bar attached to the bottom of the hotel is where you check in and it is not a bad place to start or end your night.
The breakfast was 14 euro a person. Also there is a coffee machine for that you can help yourself to but the coffee was not very good.
Room is big, clean, and nice. Wifi is very strong.
It's quite far from public transport, not suitable for people who come with big luggage. Staff was quite busy ( guess staff needs to take care of restaurant).
The location, character of the old building yet modern facilities within the apartment.
Nothing. All great.
Staff was great, very friendly with a good humor. Room (except for bathroom door & window) was nice. Definitely to be recommended if other rooms are just a bit better.
Definitely avoid the room above the bar, since you're basically on top of the speakers. Also bathroom could use a repair or two (cardboard isn't too good of a window between room and bathroom)
Lovely hotel, we stayed 2 nights (Saturday until Monday) and were given a free upgrade to the lovely suite on the top floor. Perfect hotel, great location, just be aware that a lot of restaurants and cafes are closed in salzburg on Sundays!
Nothing at all
The location was really good
The couch looked conspicuously stained
great location, free tee (and coffee) in the lobby, really comfortable bed, nice room and bathroom
Location location and location
The location is within the pedestrian free zone, so it's only a few minute walk to everything. Bed was one of the most comfortable we've experienced in any hotel in Europe. The guy running the desk was uber helpful in booking tour passes and Salzburg Card (worth the $). They do have an elevator...it's small but works fine. We did not do breakfast onsite, we grabbed pastries at one of the local bakeries. Safe, covered parking lot is a five minute walk, and staying at the hotel gets you a discount on the rate. Room was recently renovated, clean. Modern feel, walk-in shower.
We stayed in the hotel's apartment which is about 150m further down Linzer Gasse towards the river. It's a first floor apartment overlooking the pedestrian street below - it was all strung up with Christmas lights when we were there so very picturesque. It's only a short walk across the bridge and into the old town and there is a SPAR market just up the street for provisions so the location was excellent. The beds were comfortable and the apartment was spacious, very warm and well laid out. We had all the windows closed, being winter, so found it pretty quiet but on a summer night, you may get more street noise if you have the windows open.
The kitchen facilities were adequate but not brilliant - could have done with more crockery and cutlery and better lighting for cooking but these were minor complaints in an otherwise excellent apartment.
We loved the location, close to everything, staff were extremely helpful, great bar at the hotel. Will def stay there again
We were very comfortable. The hotel is excellent for a family travelling with a baby and we felt like home. It was just the place we were looking for: good location, simple yet comfortable and with a great staff.
The location was fantastic with easy access to everything in Salzburg!
The room had a bit of a moldy smell which seemed to be coming from the bathroom. If you closed the bathroom door though it would make the smell in the bathroom 10 times worse and make it feel really swampy in there. Still I was only there a few days and the location was worth it.
This hotel is located in the pedestrian area very close to shops and within walking distance to the river and MORE shops and restaurants. I will definitely stay here again.
Mattress was a little bit thin.
free coffee in the reception area -- fast internet -- hotel information was given on paper detailing everything such as internet password and hotel procedures during the night.. good rooms and nice bathroom
small elevator --
Location we got upgraded to the suite which was like a large flat with 2 big rooms and included a kitchen, a large living room and even a piano! The location was perfect.,close to the city center and in one of the main streets with lots of restaurant, bars and even a super market and pharmacy just next door.
The bar down below and coffee
Absolutely fantastic location. Probably in the best spot in the whole of Salzburg. The owner was also very helpful and friendly.
We stayed an extra night than planned and had to move rooms. Although our first room was good, the second looked over the street and was very noisy. The street lights beamed through the room making sleep impossible, and my mattress had a harsh spring pushing through.
EVERYTHING, VERY GOOD OPTION....
JUST ONE THING, THERE WAS 2 BARMAN, ONE OF THEM,WAS NOT VERY FRIENDLY THAT DAY...
The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the hotel had charm and character. We made good use of the free tea and coffee.
It would have been nice to have some English breakfast tea amongst the collection of teas and coffees... When the reception is closed you have to check in in the next door café, which can be noisy at times and is not characteristic of the hotel itself.
Piano in the room, spacious area, Art on the wall, location.
Only one wc in a family room. No slippers in the room. TV on the floor
Good location, small hotel, good wifi speed compared to other hotels, free tea and coffee
Breakfast was very basic (€14 pp at the hotel, many coffe shops around where you can get much better and cheaper).
Centre of the town. All major attractions nearby.
Staff could be more polite and courteous Smoking smell comes the moment you go out of the room. Hotel has no parking and for newbies to salzburg, it could be a mess to find a public parking space.
- big room, especially a lovely & cozy living room
Kitchen facities, it's too small, no microwave and no kitchen wares
