Mallnitz is a picturesque small and beautiful alpine town.
Mallnitz is a picturesque small and beautiful alpine town. Once it was very important because of "Auto-Schleuse" train that brought cars under Tauern mountain ridge, through the tunnel, from Salzburger Land to Kaernten, and vice versa. More than 500 000 cars were transported that way each year, but today - because of the Tauern Autobahn - the number is around 100 000. Also, there is a nice skiing area in the near vicinity, the Ankogel. But, because other, more modern skiing facilities that were built in the meantime, also nearer to today's autoroutes, Mallnitz is not so busy anymore. Still, it has everything: from small pastry shops to restaurants, hotels and ski equipment shops. Small town square is pretty as well as fast stream that runs through town center. There is plenty of possibilities in Mallnitz for recreation: besides Ankogel ski area, there are "Langlauf", trekking and sledding trails, as well as public swimming pool (heated and closed) with wellness center and tennis courts. A wonderful small village in the Austrian Alps.
A wonderful small village in the Austrian Alps. Just a 3 min car ride / or a longer walk away, you find a lovely area to hike and walk around in the nature. Die Ankogelbahn is also very close. the entire area is great and full of activaties and generous natural sceneries. I can only recommend the entire Hohe Tauern National Park.

Definitely worth visiting.
Definitely worth visiting. So far we were there only in the winter and it offers many interesting and fun activities but surely it is lovely during all other seasons too. The village itself is small but it has everything you might need during your stay

Is a small town in a beautiful neighborhood, the area offers great excursions all year round. Its railway connection is organized according to Austria's professionalism. Billa grocery store locally. Mallnitz is a perfect destination for all kinds of sports and leisure activities - skiing, snowboarding, hiking, wellness, enjoying good restaurants etc. It's a great place to relax and reflect surrounded by beautiful nature!

Mallnitz is small village up in the mountains. You can find there a grocery, a swimming pool with saunas and an ATM as well. We prefer places like that cause it's not overcrowded. It's near a ski area Ankogel /3-4kms/ - you can go by car or take a ski bus from Mallnitz. Another quite close ski area is Mölltaler Gletscher /20km/ and there are also opportunities for hiking, skitouring, cross-country skiing, playing pétanque or tennis and so many other winter and summer sports.VieraSlovakia

Mallnitz is a super town. Really nice and clean in the summer as well. Everything is close to the apartments, shops, restaurants, supermarkets. The locals are really nice people everywhere, they greet you and they are helpful and kind. First time in Austria and on the Alps mountains and it was so great and so nice.

It is a Mallnitz symbol, has lots of character and it is in an absolutely gorgeous location. We were already in Mallnitz for the last 10 days ( we travel to Mallnitz every year for about 2 weeks in the winter and 2 weeks in the summer) when we decided to stay for a night there. In the end we couldn’t stay due to the reasons below.

The apartment was clean and includes everything you might need (fridge, kitchenware, coffee machine etc.). It’s in walking distance to center of Mallnitz (highly recommend during Christmas time) where are restaurants, shops and so on. Good location for skiing to Ankogel or Molltall.

It is really worth staying there for longer time, not just for night on the way to Italy.

Getting around Mallnitz from here was easy! The apartment was spacious and clean. The host family was really accommodating - we had a nice dinner with other guests around the campfire in the common area.
