Score from 350 reviews Very good
The air-conditioned Hotel Alpha Wien is in Vienna's elegant Josefstadt district with its numerous historic buildings and Town Hall, and just under a quarter of a mile from the Rathaus Underground...
Score from 1458 reviews Very good
Over 400 years old, the elegant Hotel Stefanie is the oldest hotel in Vienna. It has free Wi-Fi access and a breakfast buffet. The Schwedenplatz metro station is 320 yards away.

very helpful service and advise about travel hints in town; also allowing bags to be kept after check out so we could continue sightseeing was very appreciated
being English the lack of a kettle and the ability to make our own tea was a disadvantage
Staff good, very helpful, nic e large room plenty of spwece, comfortable bed, wifi free and worked
The hotel gave me a feeling of returning to past times of elegance.Formal floral wallpaper, armoires, chandeliers, tall ceilings, beautiful tiled bathroom. And yet it had present day comfort. I really liked it. The staff was very helpful, and ordered our early taxi for us. All went smoothly. The dining room staff let us in a few minutes before opening since we had to leave early. The breakfast was delicious--wonderful fresh breads were memorable.
The room had high ceilings and a classical setting, reminding of old times. But all other things of modern life were there, as mini-bar, cable TV and air-conditioning. The owner (and his son on the weekend) was always kind and helpful. The breakfast is very good and offers a wide variety of good tasting things. The hotel-pension is by the side of the Rathaus and close to subway and tram stops, and also near a Billa super-market. We would come back to the same place in case we return to Vienna.
The bathroom is small and the first impact is not good. But from the next day on, we thought it was all we needed (we stayed for 1 week) and we considered it as fine for our purposes. When we arrived with all our luggage to the old building the first impression was not too good (probably because we are used to hotels), but after seeing the inside and understanding that this is a pension-hotel, we found it fine.
Large spacious room; old style building; good bathroom; excellent security; helpful friendly staff; location next to Reichstag very good
Breakfast was average; pillows very soft
Closeness to downtown. Nice proprietor.
Dirty, torn wallpaper, furniture and carpet, run down, poor breakfast.
1. For the 90 euros per night, breakfast served was very sub-standard. 2. Room upholstery looked unclean 3. Bathroom too small. Inconvenient. 4. Had difficulty finding the hotel, no signs or anything 5. Beds not comfortable.
good location clean quiet
no public space (lobby/restaurant) for guests
Location Clean Personnel
Mattrass Pillows Very uncomfortable and unpleasant bathroom
the Residenz Hotel Pension was located in a central location. this made visiting all the nice places in the first district of vienna a pleasant experience. we were luck to have the only room with a balcony. this made it nice to wake up in the morning and stand outside and smell the fresh air. the room was very clean, and had a good size. the internet connection was great and worked fine - it was fast with no problems. we really enjoyed our stay in vienna and staying the this pension made the stay more enjoyable.
Classic character, high ceilings, near by parking, located near city centre
Location of the pension is really good.
May be breakfast could be a bit richer.
Friendly staff, spacious room, location
Our familiy like Vienna and Film festival. This location is near Rathaus, Votiv church, Hoffburg... Hotel Residenz Pension is old and the rooms also, buth all is nice.. The boy at the reception is very kind.
Stylish and clean and good value for money, fresh food for breakfast. Nicely furnished room, quiet.
No tea or coffee making facilities, no guest laundry.
location and staff
Central location with parking possible so we could attend the jazz festival.
The hotel is spooky being in a dilapidated building. Entrance door was chipped. Corridor to lift was not maintained. At hotel level had to guessed which room to call for staff. Shocked to see a fish aquarium covered with algae. One wonders how they can maintain the residence if they cannot keep a small fish aquarium. Bathroom dark. Not enough lights. Towels has lost its fluff. Generally room did not have enough lighting
A friend and I shared a superior double room. It was very comfortable and spacious. Air conditioning worked well. Shower room was clean and well equipped.
There was not a lot of choice at breakfast, and hardly any fresh fruit (3 apples only one day). The person 'serving' the breakfast on Saturday and Monday of our stay was not helpful and had a bad attitude. The person serving on Sunday was excellent however.
- breakfast is very very poor - rooms are small and old - hotel is only 2 (or 3) floors of another building (bit weird)
laundry done for you at bargain price above standard service if you want the Ritz you pay for Ritz, if you want good basic hotel, this is for you!
Clean and neat and not too expensive. Nice bathroom and a good location.
No balcony or terrace. The only mirror could be found in the bathroom but I could not find a socket there, which made it a bit hard to straighten my hair.
central location; plenty of effort made to turn an old property into a hotel/pension.
despite the efforts to modernise the property, the room still had a bit a rundown feel to it.
Close to the Uni and the center of the city, also a supermarket and restaurants. The staff was very helpful. Breakfast was substantial, though I would have liked more fresh fruit (some days there were apples).
Lots of stairs or one old elevator. Double room (at single price) was a good size, but rather dark and airless looking over narrow internal courtyard. I used the a/c most of the time. It was quiet, though.
