Amazing location in centre of village overlooking the river, very friendly staff, traditional old-school service such as porter taking luggage to room, grand decor that evokes a different era, fantastic food, large bed, spacious room with high ceiling & large window, swimming pool.
We were there at the end of the season. So there were very few guests, so we canno speak for service in high season. For us it was excellent
Schloss Durnstein is set in a beautiful village in the loveliest part of the Wachau. It is hard to imagine a more romantic location in a place so rich in historical interest and natural beauty. The staff are very pleasant, the ambience is fabulous, rooms are very comfortable and the food is the best of Austrian cuisine. Whatever you do, have at least one lunch or dinner in the lovely dining room. This was our third stay here and already we are looking forward to the next.,
The decor in our room was dated. The antique furnishings were lovely, but the bathroom did need updating. Lots of peach tones were a bit off-putting too. The half-board deal was fantastic value, but the many courses at dinner were just too much to eat; we went a-la-carte after our first evening.
Location, the charme of the building, the excellent food
I liked everything.....no idea !
Spa facilities were excellent. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Superb breakfasts and we really enjoyed the evening meals.
We had booked a table in the Fine Dining restaurant which nobody seemed to realise when we arrived. The food was excellent but we were fairly solitary diners which was a shame as it was for my husband's birthday. Also you eat breakfast where you have dinner so we ended up being practically alone at breakfast as well.
Leaving too early
spectacular, unique and frankly a must do in Wachau. It is a beautiful hotel with spectacular view. it is an experience. the hotel restaurant is not to be missed either.
expensive, but worth it. Service is not the best.
The food and wine very expensive but the food was good although minimalist. The interior of the common rooms were attractive but some unrestored antiques and paintings detracted. The attitude of the reception staff on departure to the justified complaint spoiled what might have been an enjoyable stay. If you go for a double bed insist on a single mattress to fit the base!
We did not complain on arrival as we unpacked and immediately went out to visit the town and have a long late lunch after which we had a rest on the bed immediately before having dinner in the hotel and did not discover the gap or movement between the mattresses until we slept in the bed overnight, complaining to reception when descending for breakfast with absolute rejection of complaint which continues to be the case. The hotel's name and photos mislead. This is not a hotel in a castle. The service did not conform to the rating. The wine at dinner first served was off and a second attempt produced a half glass from the almost empty bottle which was also off left the bottle empty. There was no complimentary water in the bedroom and the shower and toilet were in a converted cupboard with inadequate shelves.
The location is stunning. The terrace at with view at the Donau is magnificent. This alone is worth a visit. The little town is also romantic and beautiful. The room (we had #3) was decorated in old school style, and this gives a strong feeling of history. Made me laugh too, but taste is personal...
The staff was rude and uninterested. The beds were hard, we could feel the springs in the matrass. First night we hardly slept. I had to explain 3 times before the staff understood that we wanted a solution and I had to come up with one myself. As vegetarians we asked if they could improvise in the restaurant which had a grill night. The promised to bring us grilled veggies but never did leaving us with a simple salad buffet and baked potato for the price of a 5 star restaurant. Wifi was extremely slow, had to stand in the window to have some kind of reception, the staff said the could do nothing and advised me to sit in the lobby with my computer....In my perspective not a 5 star hotel. The town and the terrace are worth a visit, but you could consider just having lunch with a stunning view and have a look around. Saves you a lot of money on the room. If you do stay, it is an adventure but know in advance that the comfort and service are not living up to expectations for that price, so you won't be disappointed.
Dinner was AMAZING!!!
We couldn't connect to WIFI in the room
Restaurant Pools Location
No airconditioning= rooms become ovens in the summer. Unbearable.
Wonderful room with balcony overlooking Danube. Excellent facilities. Lovely village.
Because of a special occasion, we requested to reserve a nice table for us and to place on it the bouquet, which we had ordered and payed for. They forgot all about it, even though we've been visiting there for years.
Rooms were a good size and the staff were very pleasant.
It was extremely hot and there was no air conditioning.
Beautiful terrace overlooking the Danube
Tiny, smelly bathroom.
The best place we have ever stayed in. The pool is amazing and romantic. The stuff is very friendly.
Everything is just perfect. Food, rooms, stuff, spa area. And of course the river-view. There are no weak points, seriously.
Hard to name any. Maybe rain on the last day of our stay :)
Staff was nice. Location is perfect.
Water in swimming pool was very cold. Sauna was not opening.
