Ski Resort of Royal Splendor
Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alps, Innsbruck is not only a world-class European ski resort, it was also the seat of Maximilian I’s Holy Roman Empire.
This imperial legacy has left its mark, most notably in the Old Town where beautiful Rococo buildings sit beside pastel facades and typically Tyrolean, flower-adorned windows. The visitable Hofburg imperial court owes its modern appearance to the 18th-century Empress Maria Theresia.
The Hofkirche has a memorial tomb for Maximilian I, and his life is depicted in frescoes on the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) nearby, named after the gleaming copper tiles lining its entrance.
Flying into Innsbruck Airport, it’s easy to see why the city was so highly regarded. Practically every street ends with a view of the Alps, lush in summer, snowy white in winter. Nestled on a slope, Schloss Ambras was once the residence of Archduke Ferdinand II, and the area provides opportunities for summer mountain climbing, hiking and golf.
In the winter, of course, it’s all about the fantastic Innsbruck skiing and snowboarding. Ski areas include Nordkette mountain, accessible by cable car and chairlifts near the town’s hotels and B&Bs on Booking.com. Its varied slopes mean that several international competitions are held here, as well as the Bergiselschanze ski jump contest. The après-ski is laid-back and centered around chalet-style bars and traditional restaurants.

Innsbruck has a wonderful location: a charming, not so large city in the midst of spectacular mountains. The Hofburg palace is interesting, is nicely located in the midst of the city and adjacent to a wonderful imperial garden with beautiful old trees. The other main palace, Ambras, is also interesting. It is located outside the city, well reachable by public transportation and surrounded by a great, hilly garden. The picture galeries and ancient furnitures of these palaces do not reach the quality of the top European castles, but are historically interesting. Public transportation is excellent. The city is very lively, quite touristy, but also casual, a good mix of local people and visitors. Nice cafes along the river and the main streets in the city center. We ejoyed the food of Il Convento and the Trattoria de due Sicilie. Reservations necessary!

Innsbruck is a great city to spend time in. It has a huge variety of restaurants, and great shopping if that's what you are in to. Public transport is excellent, and you can base yourself in the city and buy a pass that is valid for a number of city sites, the public buses, and 13 ski resorts which can be easily reached by bus. There is a funicular railway up to Nordketter, Innsbruck's own ski area. There is a very easy student/university vibe to the city at night: highly recommended

A relatively small city among the Alps. The old town is absolutely charming and fully walkable, If the weather is good, a visit to the Hafelekar summit by the cable car Nordketten is not to be missed. Also, Swarowski World Wattens and Ambras Castle are at a 15 mins distance. Day trips to Munich, Oberammergau, Bolzano, Kitzbuhel and Zell Am Zee are easy.ADRIANIGreece - 10Scored 10

It is one of the most beautiful towns I have been . I decided to go there Bcz i had a direct train connection . But it was a wonderful place to have calm,quiet holidays enjoying the breath taking mountains and surrounding nature. It is a best place to sit quietly and read a book and enjoy the view of you book a place to stay around the mountains . But if you want to have the city vibe it is filled with people from different places and you can enjoy drinking some local coffee and tea and even wine and enjoy a local dish and taste local gin . Fantastic city to visit with kids, with particular recommendations for AudioVersum (interactive fun for kids and adults) and Kristallwelten (just the view from the six-storey, glass, indoor play space is amazing). Also, if you're shopping for outdoors/activewear for kids, the selection (especially at the InterSport in Kaufhof Tirol) is greater than anywhere we've been. The centre of the city is quite compact and easy to explore on foot, whilst everything else can be reached within a 10-minute cab ride. Getting out of town is also very convenient by rail, bus, or taxi/uber. We stayed for five days, including two day trips skiing at Schlick, and could easily have stayed longer.AlbertUnited Kingdom
