First mentioned in 1608 and family-owned since 1908, the inn „Zum Schwarzen Bären“ (The Black Bear) in Emmersdorf in the Wachau has over the years become a first-class hotel and restaurant.

The hotel is a successful combination of traditional inn culture and modern comfort, with cosy, individually furnished rooms, traditional parlours in the historic part and a modern spa centre. The restaurant is widely known for its excellent cuisine combining traditional and lighter, creative dishes.

We offer our guests many activities outside the hotel, including guided bicycle tours, Nordic walking, “Heurigen” evenings with wine and schnapps tastings at our local winemaker in Joching, day trips to Vienna, barbecue evenings in the garden, wonderful hiking trails, bicycle rental, and much more.

Area information

The quiet village of Emmersdorf is directly opposite the famous Melk Abbey and is especially attuned to cyclists. Many cycling tours through the Wachau, with its mythical places, vineyards, palaces and castles, start here. There are romantic natural sights as well as many cultural and historic attractions to be discovered.

evening meal was excellant; one or two members of staff were very friendly and helpful. Holel and restaurant have good ambience.

swimming pool was too cold. Spa was also cool and we had to keep getting out to switch it back on 20yds away One member of staff was very curt and unwelcoming. Room was huge but lay-out could have been better. Separate toilet with no hand basin. All information at hotel is in German. A little info in English would have felt more welcoming

Ich brauchte nur ein Bett und ein Essen, sonst nichts. Beides war wirklich gut! Sonst habe ich keine Möglichkeiten genutzt.
