Thank you for our recent stay at Captains Retreat. The tea/coffee and cake on arrival for afternoon tea was a nice touch before we headed out in the freezing cold to Werribee Zoo for Wild nights. The cooked breakfast in the morning was lovely, so too was the location for a nice walk along The Strand on Sunday morning. Nice chatting with the Melissa about all things Art and the history of the property.

A last minute decision to stay ended up a most pleasant experience. I travel quite regularly and have never felt more welcome and comfortable as I did at Captains Retreat. Melissa was a delightful host in some of the most pleasant surroundings you can find.

What didn't I like ? ..... how could this place only be rated 9.5 ???? I am not sure where they lost the '0.5"?

The facility and deco of the B&B property is amazing, very cozy and feeling so much like home! The customized service we experienced from the lovely hostess Melissa was really remarkable and beyond our expectation I have to say.

Honestly nothing we did not like. But if the cottage can be further equiped with free wifi would be much more convenient.

First and foremost, the staff at the Captain's Retreat were just lovely and the location was perfect for us. Unfortunately, we were in Williamstown for the funeral of a close family member and so at the Retreat for one night only, not enough time to relax and enjoy what was on offer.

Because my husband is quite tall and plump and I am skinny, I would have preferred a larger bed so partner disturbance was less of an issue. A feather mattress-topper might have helped but this is a mere cavil. Also, I would have preferred a less dense pillow, but arrived too late to request one...perhaps there's a choice.

Melissa is a gem.She went well above and beyond what could be expected from a host. Even to getting 2 of our party in Punthill apartments next door(very good quality again) when they had no booking and she had no vacancies. The B&B property is amazing, you have to see it to believe it. Oh, and she is a terrific cook and will drown you in tea and coffee if allowed. This place is too good to be true, BUT IT IS.

The fact that I could not find anything wrong. Everwhere has something, this did not.

The host. Melissa, and her staff couldn't do enough to help us. The location of the Retreat itself was perfect, in walking distance of many restaurants, shops and the sea front. It's furnishings were lovely, interesting and relaxing and the deck a great place to chill out. A beautiful atmosphere. Delicious home made cake was offered with tea or coffee on arrival and the breakfast was freshly prepared to order. Thoroughly recommend it.

There was some confusion with our booking. Probably my fault but I think the web site needs to be more explicit. (I think it may be modified as we did discussed it with Melissa). We expected to stay at the Retreat but were in fact booked into an apartment some distance away. As we arrived by air with luggage and had no car, this immediately posed us with some problems. The member of staff who welcomed us looked after us as best she could, driving us there in her car and eventually she managed to get us into the retreat for 2 of our 4 nights there. The apartment had no wifi (which was disappointing) but it was otherwise a well appointed, modern apartment. Great if you require lots of privacy. however you need transport, if you are staying there, to enjoy Williamstown to the full and get to the station to go into Melbourne.

Charming hospitality of the owner We loved her anecdotes about the house's history; excellent breakfast. Close to restaurants and shopping, and so much nicer than staying at a hotel..

The staff were very friendly and hospitable liked the little touches like the cake on arrival.

The air con was not working and the bed was uncomfortable.

The host, Melissa went above & beyond what we would ever have expected from a B&B owner. She offered to park our car, then drove us down to the restaurant where we were booked for dinner & we chatted with her the next morning until well after check out time. The room was beautifully appointed with a luxury bathroom. The cooked breakfast, served on the balcony was delicious with plenty of options for all tastes.

    There was nothing disappointing.

Location excellent, staff great. Wonderful linens . A beautiful outside area for seating and quiet reflection. "Made to personal taste" hot breakfast wonderful. A great location with easy access to Melbourne but still within a small community that had lots to offer.

A very small bathroom with minisual sink. We managed but just without splashing water everywhere on the floor. Melissa was a wonderful "laid back"hostess . Perhaps a bit more structure around what you could get on a daily basis .. Ie : fresh towels , "house rules, a binder showing some transport options, etc.

Melissa and her crew were marvellous. Breakfast could have been eaten inside or outside on the terrace and it was delicious. Wonderful setting and a fantastic B & B. We were bumped up to a spa room which was lovely.

Minor detail: drapes in our room didn't quite meet in the centre up the top therefore let early morning light and late night street light in. Not a huge issue though.

Staff very, very friendly. Very gorgeous cottage with very cosy atmosphere. With public transport (busstop just outside the B&B) and train to Flinders Station within 30 minutes. Nice restaurants and shops within walking distance. Also right by the waterfront with fantastic view over Melbourne City. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Melbourne! Loved it!

Very comfortable bed. Helpful host. Good breakfast. Access to refreshments in shared kitchen. Private and relaxing. Quiet even though in main street.

Bathroom very small. Most of space taken up by a spacious shower, however. Limited hanging space in room.
