Challis Lodge

The outside of Challis Lodge and reception area certainly does not reflect the interior of the rooms.On entering the room the ceiling light cut off, that was just the start of a horrible experience. Even when the light bulb had been changed the room was dark and depressing and sparse.No other lighting other than ceiling light.The ''Ensuite'' was in a corner and was so small you had to sqeeze to use the toilet and the shower area was appalling.So Shabby overall that nothing less than gutting and given a complete makeover would make it habitable.I Have stayed in many accommodations through out the world and quite a few in backpacker accomodation Challis Lodge is by far and wide the worst I have beeen in and the cost certainly did not reflect this. I was booked in for 5 nights but only stayed one,it was evening when I checked in so I had to stay the one night. Only one possitive about the whole nightmare was on checking out the guy on reception said I could leave my luggage there untill I found other accomodation.If you want at least ok accomodation do not even consider Challis Lodge.

If you don't mind walking and can climb down the 112 steps to the Finger Wharf then climbing up the 104 steps to the Domain it is an easy walk to the Botanic Gardens, Circular Quay and the Rocks.

It appears expensive but that is caused by the exchange rate to GB Pounds that makes everything in Australia expensive.

The location was good , easy to found quiet near the cross. Pas mal pour un weekend au centre ville de sydney !

To expensive , not comfortable noisy sometimes C'est un peu chère et pas assez confortable mais c'est l'Australie ça peut surprendre parfois :) bonne chance !!

It is in an ideal location for those visiting the Opera house, Art Gallery, and facilities in Mcleay St. and the Cross - Potts Point is a delightful area, and a pleasure to walk around. The gentlemen behind the desk were helpful and friendly. The accomodation is ecomomical and is appreciated considering the high cost of living in Sydney - this is important for visitors from interstate and overseas.

My room was very basic & just about adequate but was not cleaned

I'd like wireless Internet.

We found that the room was very inadequate and dirty with soiled bed linen, the pictures that advertised the rooms did not show a true reflection of the room we was presented with on arrival, we found information sheet stating that the room should only be occupied by one person and was then rented out to a couple. Would advise anyone thinking of booking this apartment to try alternative prior to booking.

Helpful staff. Handy city location, close to train station. Had everything we needed - with regards to laundry, cooking facilities etc.

The hotel is in a good location, quiet place to relax but still close to plenty of dynamic bars and restaurants and charming district of the city. Close to King Cross station as well which makes the city trip really easy. The rooms are simple and comfy.

There are just one bathroom per floor.

It's in a convenient location, in a very 'up market' area (Potts Point) but is still an economical stay. Close to the night life of Kings Cross but on a quiet Avenue. Best described as 'one up' from a Back Packers Hostel it has no pretensions but it doesn't need to have! I had a single room with shower / toilet: the latter was bijou to say the least (!); there was also a fridge, kettle, crockery and cutlery. Years since I'd slept on a military (style) metal framed bed but the mattress was comfortable and the sheets clean. For the price, well worth it.

Fresh towel supply was erratic, but did improve. One day I got two lots (!) so communication seems to be a bit of a problem. Stairs seemed a bit steep, but then I'm not as fit as I used to be!

It fitted my budget and was a good location . Staff very helpful when my friend lost her wallet .

It didnt have a lock on the door 2 females , although there was not an incident you where aware during the nite that there could have been an intrusion
