Location's good but you should know that Kings Cross area is Sydney's red lights district. Definitely not a family place but works well for single travelers. Lots of brothels around :-)
I was shocked to see the lodge. The room was not even close to those pictures on the website. Definitely photoshop was used to make it more appealing. The room looked more like a garage with bed in it. Horrible. I have never lived in such a disgusting place. They said on the website that there will be some renovation work on the site but they never mentioned that the whole place was a construction site with piles of rubbish around. Absolutely unacceptable. I was even more disappointed with Booking.com that let this happen. I cannot trust this site anymore.
Location and veiw through trees to centrepoint tower
Damp room, window painted closed. Sounds of plumbing in other rooms audible.
Location was good
Mould in the shower leaking taps lack of security as a piece of giprock blocked the back door way and exits were all blocked in case of emergency
The location was close to everything
The stink from the toilet, there was a leak.
Close to great little restaurants & bars. Short walk to the train station & shops.
Will be even better when the renovations are finished.
Poor amenities, bed legs broken, shower head old and wouldn't work, bathroom so small. The whole room was too old and dated, worn out
Great friendly helpful staff and so close to our destinations. Public transport so close. Loved it :)
The tv was a bit hard to pick up signal.....
Old, needs renovation. Too little rooms. Didn`t make room cleaning, judt changet towels. We didn't like. Can find better for same price or so.
location, accessibility, politeness of staff
bit old but i understand it just about to undergo a renovation
The location was perfect. A 5min walk from Kings Cross train station and a 25 min walk strait into the heart of the city. There is a supermarket and a pharmacy located just around the corner. The area was classy and offered a range of places to eat and drink. I believe when the renovations are finished it will be a great place to stay.
Even though the hotel building is gorgeous(or will be,shall I say?!) Renovations were going on during our stay. Doors were missing, it was dusty, workers were everywhere etc. We were actually surprised that they are still operating, since its quite dangerous in there. Plus our room was moldy, the bed was terrible(springs sticking out) and it was never cleaned(only towels were changed).
The staff were very friendly extremely helpful.
12 mins walking distance from King cross station. The bed was very uncomfortable.
Staff Facilities Noise Cleanliness
the staff were extremely friendly and helpful
television didn't work properly, didn't pick up channels bathroom was a bit grotty and soap from previous occupant was still in the shower shower head was very loose and difficult to manage where the water was flowing but, i'm certain this will all be rectified in the refurbishment, so really, it was fantastic value all around
It is very difficult to rate Challis Lodge as renovations are taking place. The staff were very obliging and friendly - I was given a room upgrade and was very happy with it.
This hotel is inn the middle of renovations and some former facilities are no longer available. However is was good value and a good location. Should be really good when the renovations are finished
I loved it bus stop outside 3 min to the statsion shops all around loved it will stay there Gain
staff were extremely helpful. The bedlinen and towels were changed daily and room kept clean and fresh. Location was perfect for us.
Electrical cords across the room made things difficult and hazardous
- Comfy place to rest after the whole day going out - convenience, nearby King Cross station and plenty choices of dining areas - value for money especially for very tight budget traveler like me
As informed earlier by Booking.com that there's renovation going on. But who cares, I was out the whole day. Anyway, the renovation works stop in the evening. Unless if you think you will be stuck in the room for 24 hours, this is not your place.
Very helpful staff
A bit away from train station
Value for money, don't except a high end room for this amount in such a location in Sydney, but it does what it needs to: supply you with a bed (including clean sheets and towels), a shower and even a fridge. Building is old, but they're renovating. Worth the buck.
Everything was old, but not nasty or dirty.
The value for money was great. Having a private bathroom + a tv, mini fridge and coffee facilities was great. And the neighborhood was really nice to wander around amd very accessible.
The renovations happening were right outside our room and started at 730 am. Noise traveled quickly and the cold water tap in the room didnt work. But im sure that once finished the end result will be worth it. I would visit again.
location close to CBD
sledge hammer at 6.30am, the the whole hotel is being renovated and is very, very dusty and noisy from the tradespeople.
The price was very cheap and the hotel was well located with easy access to train and sites.
It was a bit noisy with all the work but I did know this on booking so it was expected. There was also quite a bit of dust due to this work again expected though. Still happy overall with the stay.
The location was excellent, for the money it was in a perfect spot.
They were in the middle of a refurbishment, walls missing and drilling throughout the day, the room was so small and dirty that we tried to move out of the hotel before the first night, but there were no hotel for the same price in the area, it meant travelling outside of the city to get the same value for money, saying that we are a young couple and partyed every night and just forgot about it, spent the money on nice food and drink. They will eventually be a $350 a night 4 star, they were barely a 1 star.
The place was mouldy wet and the whole lodge was covered in dust and plaster from the renovations. Usually they renovate in sections but this place was just a mess
