The free Circle tram starts operating from 10 am only. We have choice of taking the train from Parliament Station or paying trams along Bourke Street and Collins Street before 10 am
Bed bugs. The bath towel could only be changed after the 4th day of stay.
Bathrooms were meant to be female only beside our room but were being used by men. Very dirty.
Location, price range
Great location, friendly well-prepared staff, easy to deal with. A nice room at a great price.
Some parts of communal areas did not seem well maintained (eg bathroom taps etc) Very slippery floors in bathrooms.
Excellent location for the theatre, Chinatown and access to the CBD
For a four person family this hotel was good value providing basic but very clean accommodation in a great location. The room was a reasonable size and had comfortable chairs and a bar fridge and drying rack, in addition to the beds.
The bathroom is down the corridor but for the price, I wouldn't complain about this. It was quite noisy outside on Saturday night but, again, this is to be expected in the city on a Saturday night. These wouldn't deter me from staying again.
Let us be honest, this place is a lot cheaper than other alternatives in the CBD and it is relatively OK if you want to stay for a couple of days.. The room is nothing fancy but it had a fridge, water boiler and a tv. This is probably the place where you only come and sleep and get the hell out as soon as possible to enjoy the city. I had no noise while I stayed there, but you can hear people walking in the hallways and probably people next room. If someone is drunk and singing next door you`ll hear that. Cross your fingers for OK neighbors :) Place has a GREAT location, the city circle is close by, Pellegrini`s is just a street away, you have a roof bar in the alley and another bar on the ground so you dont have to walk far. If you plan to do stuff in the CBD this is going to be great for you. City Circle`s just passing by at the parliament so you can be at QVM quickly in the mornings for a great breakfast...
The shower/bathroom facilities were quite gross, reeking of urine, but that is probably the fault of other guests... Though I`d rather have them clean them twice... You get what you pay for
Unfriendly staff. Really really unfriendly
Offer free wifi and luggage storage
Locality to the Free City Route Tram, locality to the MCG, friendly staff, value for money & plenty of correspondence prior to our arrival to ensure we were prepared.
Travelling on my own with a young (6yr old) child but our room was quite a way from the communal bathroom areas. This is my only criticism & even then it was not a big inconvenience to our stay.
NOISY. I asked for a quiet room and was placed near reception. This is more like a hostel rather than a hotel. DO NOT STAY
It's just a hundred meters away from the city council building and Cook's cabin. It's quite convenient.
Near a rubbish collection stop. A bit noisy outside.
Free wifi. Incredible staff. Good location to city centre.
Shared bathroom / toilet / shower. Water from shower spilled everywhere near toilet.
Location is fabulous, place is safe and accommodating staff.
The kitchen is too minimal, too far from the room. Cleanliness is average, showers could be cleaned 2x per day with the number of rooms.
All the staff were incredible - particularly Paul from reception who was so friendly and helpful, advising me on the easiest way to get around the city and booking me on fantastic tours. My room was also very comfortable and spacious. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling for both long and short stays. Excellent value and I would definitely stay here again.
those stairs lol
Excellent location. Great cost compared to other city centre options.
The room didn't look like the nice one on the Internet or outside the hotel. Ours was much more worn/run down. Also having the kitchen on the outside roof terrace is very strange.
no hassle, simple clean relatively cheap.....good balance betweeen hostel and hotel
The location is great, the manager on duty friendly and helpful and the rooms comfortable.
The only thing I don't like (and I've stayed before, so knew in advance what to expect) is the paper-thin walls, meaning that you can hear everything going on.
I really liked that this hotel was very quiet at night, you are just that bit further along little Collins Street for absolute peace and quiet. Our room was cold, but staff provided a heater and extra blanket to make us comfortable. The shared bathrooms were mopped and cleaned regularly and there were a lot on our floor, so we rarely had to wait at all, with great hot water! Staff friendly and welcoming and there are books and computers you can access for free. Free wifi too, we moved to a second hotel at double the price when we needed to stay another night in town unexpectedly and the Budget Hotel was full, but there was less room in the hotel room and no free wifi! The little kitchen at the top of hue he building is well equipped, toaster, sandwich maker, microwave, fridge, great for saving even more money. We arrived late and they gave very clear advice on how to get to the hotel and let ourselves in safely, which was appreciated. Taking on the sacrifice of shared bathrooms and no lift is a very small compromise for a comfortable and welcoming stay at such a great price when it's walking distance from everything!
For some people the idea of no lift and two flights of stairs may be a negative, personally, I didn't mind at all. When you are getting up the stairs yourself, there's no wait for lifts, which I prefer, since I always travel with a backpack, not a suitcase. The cleaning ladies were pretty loud from the moment they started cleaning the rooms and bathrooms on our floor, we arrived on a late flight and didn't get to bed until almost 2am, so their chatting and banging was a bit of a wake up! For some, shared bathrooms is an issue, but as I see it, any hotel room has been used by others before you, what's the drama if it was used 10 minutes before you or a day before? Though some people get squeamish!
staff helpful and smiling room not entered by cleaning staff unless I requested it. TV was a good large size
One shower room had a tiny washbasin awkwardly positioned that was impossible to use properly
Very Friendly, helpful staff.
Location was great, staff friendly, rooms clean with great TV and wifi. Probably one of the best "backpackers" we have stayed at :)
nice and friendly staff, high-speed and free wifi, close to Fitzory Garden and Parliament, overall is a great and valuable experience.
kitchen facilities are a bit out of date and the location needs some walk from Melbourne central.
