Molly, the proprietor, is such a lovely lady! She was so kind and welcoming from the second I arrived, but without being pushy or cloying. I had the great priviledge of staying in the Studio and it was a-mazing. I have not felt so relaxed, re-energised or slept so well for a long while! The Studio has a verandah on which you could easily spend an evening just whiling away the time with a book or a friend. I can't recommend Country Gate highly enough for a wonderful weekend away. As soon as I walked in, I said, "I could stay here for a month". I wish I could have! I found a false eyelash on the ledge in the bathroom, unfortunately. But such a minor thing in otherwise perfection.

Me and my sister stayed in the Forge over the New year break. It was fantastic! The outdoor area was very serene,aaaaah! We were greeted by Molly's son who was very kind, welcoming and helpful.Molly was very hospitable and friendly! I loved the kitchenette, there were so many cooking utensils supplied - it was a pleasure cooking in the kitchen! Even though my sister was lazy and made me do all the cooking :( Ooooh, the bath robes were a great luxury! The bathroom was well stocked and beds were super comfy!!! We felt so safe and comfortable throughout our whole stay.The whole cottage was in impeccable condition. The dogs were such cuties and friendly too! Brownie kept us company on Nye and acted as our own little security guard! LONG LIVE BROWNIE!!!!! The gravel roads to get to the cottages was only about 2 kms but a bit worrying with a rental car....

The reception was excellent from the owners. They lit the wood fire for me and made me feel very welcome. The cottage was rustic, cosy and had everything that I needed. I wasn't able to walk in the woods due to the weather. I have to go back there. There wasn't much not to like. I would like Booking.com to accurately indicate that two of the cottages are actually studios not 1 bedders. The owner gave me a larger cottage than the one I booked which was really good.

If you want to stay in a sterile hotel with no character, this is not the place for you. If you'd like a unique country experience with a super friendly owner, stay here. Located about 20 minutes drive from Daylesford, it was the perfect spot for a weekend out of Melbourne. The owner even lit the fire and turned on the electric blanket prior to our arrival. We would love to return.
