Location The rooms were very dirty- the chairs & carpets need a good clean and the beadspread was grubby. Also the "views over the harbour" were grossly over advertised seeing as you had to strain & hold curtains out of the way to catch a glimpse of the sea. The lay out of the rooms and basic decor was hideous. My bed side table was broken and grubby with wires hanging out. The nice restaurant downstairs had closed down. I got no offers of help to lug my cases up narrow flights of stairs and there were no facilities. Ive had better accommodation in backpackers!!! Over all a terrible stay and I would never recommend you to a friend

Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Excellent buffet breakfast at very reasonable cost. Good value for a central city hotel A rather quirky old fashioned hotel layout with steps everywhere, even within the same floor - not good for hauling luggage around - though staff very helpful. On fringe of the red light area - no problem at all for us, but might be off-putting for some. Not very well located for getting around Sydney.

Easy access to sights The hotel is very much in need of an upgrade. It is not of the standard that I expected of the Devere group!

The price was good for a decent location. The front of house manager and another gentleman that didn't wear a name badge were rude to us and each other, extremely unprofessional and didn't really seem to know what they were doing. We had a standard twin and two delux doubles booked (not that you could class them as anything other than disgusting) and when one party was put into a substandard room they argued back with us about what we had booked, not even apologizing when they were found to be wrong and all of that time they had our booking in front of them am it clearly stated the request. All in all I would never stay there again and would never recommend it either. Maybe if the staff got customer service trained it would be better.

The room was quite clean and reasonably spacious for two people, and beds were comfortable. The window faced into the bottom of an internal light well and had frosted glass, so there was almost zero natural light and you couldn't even tell if it was day or night. In fairness, the type of window was mentioned on the website when booking, but still, the price for a room of this type was unjustifiably high, since it was a very depressing place to be for doing anything besides sleeping. Overall, the hotel is still okay, but the rooms without an external window should be avoided.

The location was Ok but the description of nightlife was a misnomer. THere were a few good restaurants off the main drag but most were adult entertainment, fast food and the area obviously appeals to backbackers because of the supply of hostels in the area. We could walk to the Town Centre in 30minutes and there was a subway stop about ten minutes away. We booked this room online, sight unseen and grabbed it because practicicaly every qreasonably priced hotel was sold out.we were disappointed in this hotel and the room assigned. The usual rate was $119 but we paid $180 because of the shortage of rooms due to the Mardi Gras. We would have been disappointed paying the usual rate because the room was small and basic, with no extras like breakfast or WiFi included. Our particular room backed onto the only elevator and it clanged and banged every time it was used. They could not move me because they said they were full. We have not used ear plugs for a long time but it was necessary to get uninerupted sleep. We had booked for three nights, unrefundable, so we were locked into this location.

Stayed at this hotel three different times during our time down under. Hotel has variable day rates so on higher priced days went elsewhere. On low price days we consider it the best value for the money we found. Air conditioning is a plus at this price range. Although listed in Kings Cross it is at very edge and away from the racier area. From the train station you do have to go through the center of Kings cross but the 311 bus will stop practically at the doorstep. Only stayed in lowest priced room one day and they moved us away from the before mentioned elevator room upon request. Believe cheapest rooms are on a central shaft while the next higher priced rooms look out on the streets. Discovered on a couple of occasions booking online got lower rates than quoted at desk. We are pretty flexible travelers so may overlook things that might bother others.
