Hadley's Orient Hotel, hotel in Hobart

Built in 1834, this unique and elegant hotel is located in the heart of Hobart's CBD (Central Business District).

Beautiful old building, our room was stunning. We were on the first floor and had a gorgeous view of the church across the road. The location was perfect, right in the middle of town and so easy to access everything. Even being on the Main Street it was so quiet inside, we barely noticed the street noise. Also the curtains were heavy and thick to block out light as well. Staff were wonderful and super helpful. $5 parking was great too, not on site but quite close and convenient. Breakfast was good value for money with prebooking, and all of the food and drinks we had were delicious.

FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

I liked the cooler weather after living in Queensland and Nortern NSW for 60 years where it is too hot for me. I like the fact that lots of history has been preserved. I found there to be a shortage of eating venues, I couldn't find a nice, reasonably priced place for a good meal. The public transport is good but reality doesn't always agree with what is noted on the internet. I followed timetables but sometimes the bus didn't run any more eg Cornelian bay had most of its advertised services cancelled. I depend entirely on the buses or walking as I do not drive so the bus service is very important to me. I thoroughly enjoyed my 9 day stay in Hobart.

My 2nd time in Hobart. The last trip was a decade ago. Hobart gives a different vibe from the other cities in Australia. Tassies are very friendly & made me feel at ease. The city is very safe & I do not have any issues walking alone during the evening.

A picturesque city choc-a-bloc with elegant historic sandstone buildings. On Day 1 after the drive up Mt Wellington to take in the superb views, we visited the Cascades Female Factory, the Botanic Gardens and then strolled around Battery Point and dined at Salamanca Place. On Day 2 we enjoyed the scenic ferry ride to MONA and had a fabulous time there. (Bear in mind that it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.)

    Here's what.

Here's what. When I booked, I imagined that it would be a regular room with a space where I could have my suitcase and so on. I didn't imagine that it would be a cubicle. The idea of my 'room' is not applicable to this situation. This refers to the room, which I felt didn't allow me enough space to be specific. Hobart was wonderful. I should have booked tours I wanted to do immediately. I bought food mostly from businesses in the mall and Woolworths. I had cereal at the Wharf and a small bowl was AUD16. A tad bit expensive, I'd say. Getting around Hobart was really easy and I would return to Hobart for longer next time.

What a wonderful stay. The staff were friendly. Amelia at reception was fantastic, helping us with an early check in. The location of this hotel is perfect with excellent views over the waterfront. So many great choices for dining out and a short stroll to Salamanca. The buffet breakfast was spot on with freshly cooked eggs or omelette made to your wishes a bonus. Parking was easy. Our bed was super comfy with a pillow menu being on offer. Hard to fault our stay.

Location was convenient to city and North Hobart, but apartment was very quiet being located in a suburban area. Room was very clean with everything needed available and in good order. Parking was easy and right near the room. We requested 'easy access' as one member of the party had recently suffered a fall and fracture - request was met in spades!
