Golden Sands Motor Inn  

We did not like anything in particular but the comfort was what we expected but the price was high given that we saw plenty of motels/hotels with vacancies along the waterfront (The Esplanade) and at much better locations than that of Golden Sands. Some advertising at $70 per night; we paid $95. Also, when we did the booking just before Easter, it was said on the website that there was only one room left (prompting us to make a quick booking as we thought Easter would be fully booked at most places). Upon arrival to gs, there was a sign hanging outside the reception reading "Vacancy". I think this is bordering to unlawful advertising. At a minimum, I think it is not ethical.

We did not like the awful attitude by the staff. I advised the owner/manager of the motel of two large dog poos in the pool area and that I thought it was not really nice. The answer I received made me speechless, it was; "Yeah, life is tough, isn't it?" Unbelivable. Also, although we like dogs, I think a dog should not be roaming free in a motel, some people are petrified by dogs or even allergic. The elderly couple running this motel has no clue of customer service or how to make guests feeling welcome. Upon arrival, my wife asked if we would qualify for a senior's discount (half joking as we had already paid for the stay). The snotty answer we received from the lady manager was; "Do you work?" to which my wife responded "No". The lady manager then said "Well, I am a senior too but I still have to work.", implying that she did not really want to be there but was more or less forced to. No wonder they have to work late in life with their "guest friendly" attitude. It is a wonder that they have any guests at all. We will never stay there again.

close proximity to shops and stores, RSL verey handy, readily accessible from road, easy to find - very satisfactory for our needs - we will stay again.

It was dated but very clean, and friendly staff - not a dislike but could be off-putting to some - the 'dated', I mean.

The owner was lovely. Not far from the beach. Right next door to the shopping centre. Was nice and clean.

The kettle took half an hour to boil. Bathroom was a little bit rundown.
