Buffet breakfast Set-up of room was terrible. Having the beds so close to the door made me feel unsecure, it was also noisy and the light from the hall coming through the door.

Location, good taste in decor, comfortable bed Poor cleaning staff, we were in a Superior room (supposedly) the floor was not vacummed, the guest information books were covered in sticky residue, black grease marks on the smoke detector, mark on the wall. Bar fridge had orange juice set hard undermeath bottle of juice in fridge. hallways not vacumed, scuff marks all along hallways. Paint foot prints on carpet in the lift. Looked like painting had been done very roughly. Shocking presentation of rooms hallways and rooms that have so much potential to look amazing if cleaned to Hotel standards.

Location and rooftop pool, however even that was poorly maintained. Poorly maintained, dirty, impersonal, over-priced, daily mini-bar inspections more suited to a youth prison than a hotel, cramped rooms, stuffy.

Good location, friendly and helpful staff, good pool. Air conditioning system. It was not possible to lower the temperature below 22 degrees. I have never come across this before, normally you can get it down to 17 or 18. On hot nights which we did have, the room was too hot. I did enquire at reception but was told that it could not be altered.

The heated rooftop pool is a delight, a gem amongst the rough and the location of the hotel is excellent - close to good food and festivities. The price is reasonable but if you plan ahead you can easily find a better Hotel for a similar price. Very poor service, staff are lazy and rude. Rooms are outdated and poorly kept. The hotel also freezes an additional $100-$300 of your funds for 1-2 weeks after your stay to cover the any extras, even if you haven't used any.

The room was extremely dusty, I was awake most of the night sneezing and I do not normally suffer from allergies. The bed had numerous amount of springs that could be felt just from lightly pressing on the bed.

It was central to everything I needed, close to trams too. $ was really good & everything I needed was there... My room smelt like cigarette smoke on arrival and on and off throughout my stay. Also I couldn't get the heating to warm the room enough...

We enjoyed the ease of parking, the friendly atmosphere of the bar. Check out at 7.30 am was slow and frustrating, we waited 15 minutes to check out.To see who we presume was a manager, constantly appear from the office behind the desk to collect some papers and not even acknowledge the waiting guests was poor. The only person at the desk serving the guests was wearing a "training badge". She was also trying to help (seat) guests requiring breakfast. A short time later another person appeared to assist. Our stay was enjoyable, however these issues will cloud our thoughts of returning. Martin and Pam Hinchliffe

I would stay in hotels in Melbourne around half a doz times a year. I usually get better value for money else where, and found the Grand Chancellor a bit tired and my room a bit grotty. I would not really recommend this hotel to anyone. I traveled with another person from my organisation who was equally disapointed with his experience. I did however have lunch and it was very very nice. The room had a dirty feel about it, as did much of the hotel.

We specifically asked for a quiet room - we didn't get it. Doors bang and conversations from other rooms can be heard. In fact their ads should say, "Ideally placed for central Melbourne - but do not come here if you like a peaceful quiet and calm hotel". They could have warned us.
