Staff were friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was appreciated.
The room I was staying in was a mess, it's difficult when you're only staying for a night or two and have to deal with long term guests treating dorm rooms like their own bedrooms and leaving their stuff everywhere. I understand there are loads of rooms to clean in a short amount of time, but there could have been a little more effort made by the guy I witnessed doing a half-hearted vacuum when I arrived in the room. Disappointing experience after being recommended this hostel by a friend.
great location in easy walking distance to anything you would want to do in St. Kilda, plus a tram stop at the front door to go further afield. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a triple room with en suite and while it was not huge, it was spacious enough for all our stuff. Plus had a small fridge, kettle, hair dryer, and soap ... ah the small luxuries after two weeks of camping! The hostel had a great vibe, though we didn't really join in on any of the social activities going on. The room and bathroom were very clean when we arrived, but as this is a hostel with eco-credentials to uphold, don't expect daily cleanings and laundering of sheets and towels.
Nothing, really. We were so pleased with the comfort and privacy given the great price. There was a little bit of outside partying noise on the weekend, but it was short lived and pretty much expected at a backpacker hostel. The wifi was great, but it was kind of inconvenient to have to log on again and again every time I wanted to jump online.
My wifi allowance ran out so for last 2 days I had to pay $10 for extra
Value for money, free parking and breakfast
Location was near the tram into the city.
The Wi-Fi didn't work for me at ask, and the staff at reception was utterly rude and unhelpful with the problem. Location was further from St Kilda beach than I expected. Also, the website poorly explains that you should get the discount code from Habitat before booking the airport shuttle, so I ended up having to pay more.
Staff & free parking are the big pro's for me. Enough kitchen stuff available, good working air conditioning, nice showers (and enough of them as well) and clean.
Somehow the atmosphere can be better, as I've noticed in different hostels (but they organize fun stuff!!). Also the tv room is always full. And the last thing, wifi is a bit slow. But can't complain about that!! It's free!
The room was cold. Told reception abt it but was told that it could not go any warmer than 20.5 deg bcos of global warming..blah..blah.On 2nd nite, we discovered large stains on de quilt, had it changed but was given another stained quilt.Urghh!!
Got a triple room there, friendly staff, nice facility and fair price. Will come back again.
friendly cheerful atmoshere
There should expand the kitchen and increase number of refigrator. Put more chear in the hall
The overcrowded during lunch and dinner .on enough seat at hall
Stayed for a week in a 6-b-dorm, was on arrival upgrated from 8-b-dorm. Met lovely people, housekeeping cleaned room and bathrooms every day. Staff was always helpful, kitchen provided enough storage and space. Would always come back!
Rooms were a bit small so there is not a lot of privacy
We stayed there for one week and wanted to book another week but there weren't any rooms available. So we'll stay there next week again and I'm already looking forward to doing so. It's such a nice place. Clean, the people in the romms (9 beds, female) were very nice and when we wanted to sleep everyone was quiet and closed doors quietly and didn't turn on the lights. Everyone cared and that was great. The kitchen has enough space, but it depends on the time, because sometimes there are too many people at the same time. But it's cool! The wi-fi had its downs but most of the time it was fine and fast. I can only highly recommend that place, it's wonderful! :)
The washing wasn't that good. Not everything was perfectly clean afterwards.
The helpful receptionist !
Everything was good. It was like having your own place in Melbourne, everyone was very keen in helping out with advice, and making a great efford to make us feel like home.
There were not enough utensils and dishes in the kitchen.
Easy access to the Hotel. Parking out the front.
Massive large picture of the football ground on the wall. I am NOT into football.
Great value for money and free off street secure parking was handy.
The carpark was crammed to the hilt!
The receptionsts are very friendly and helpful, and it's 24 hrs check-in. Lots shower spaces in the bathroom. High quality accommodation for its price!
Other than one very helpful young guy on reception I was not a happy traveller here. All glasses were used (none in room with private facilities) I was offered a white plastic cup to drink red wine... The young girl said, 'It doesn't taste any different'... I suggested that if my private room was no different to a dorm I would stay in dorm at a 3rd of the price in future!!! They sell bottles of red and white wine at reception... I may be staying at a backpackers but I certainly paid a price that I would expect better service than this!!!
Most other than a comfortable mattress it does not get my vote. I paid $9 more for a more upmarket place the following night. If this had been my stay in Melbourne I would have been very disappointed!
My husband and I wanted to stay in St Kilda on a modest budget. We found Habitat HQ on line and booked a double room with ensuite. The room was a good size, big enough to lay our cases on the floor and not trip over them. The double bed which was actually queen size by NZ standards was very comfortable. There was a good sized shower in the ensuite. A bar fridge which we removed a shelf out of to fit in bottles of water, an electric jug and a telly on the wall. The only other piece of furniture which would have been good to have, a small table or desk to sit at, as there was also a chair. There was a laundry room with washers and dryers. For $4 for the washing machine, and $1 per quarter hour for the dryer, it was good value. In total, it cost us $8 for our load of washing. There are transport cards available at the desk, $7 for a day pass on any mode of transport. The tram stops almost outside the door, and goes past every 10-15 minutes. Three supermarkets within a 5-10 walk as well.
The shopping roads of St Kilda are quite a walk from Habitat HQ, so consequently you do a lot of walking.
Cosy, friendly, great value, feels like your home, ...
Pillow is a little bit too thin
Easy access to public transport, nice and clean rooms, friendly staff, and the free breakfast saved us money which was great! Generally, very good value for money, and it was more like a hotel than a hostel. I would recommend this place to anyone.
The friendly staff which is a great base for general friendliness for everyone else. The place runs very efficiently and a high standard of cleanliness and the sustainable focus is great.
Nothing to complain about
Noise at night
Nice staff, clean room
Bit far from city..
Really nice staff, comfortable common areas, free wi-fi, good to meet lots of new people, they organize fun event every night...I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a place to stay in Melbourne for a few days.
